The way I see it, is Napoli are doing what any seller would sensibly do, try and get the best price for their asset. They have an offer from us and they were given encouragement that if Chelsea could sort their managerial situation out, that they would bid too. In that case Napoli would be well within their rights to see who was going to bid the most. Its pretty simple really.

That's fair enough on those examples, I just disagree on this approach. If Jorginho is our target, just close the deal already. In our fortunate position the hard work is identifying the player, vetting his personality and fit for the system, and agreeing personal terms. There aren't many players that will tick all those boxes and who will be an upgrade to the squad and we found one!

We've been speaking to Napoli for months at this point and we're down to negotiating over very fine margins. Expecting the player to step in at this point when he has another option and do the dirty work is foolish in my opinion (and we've seen that it doesn't always work). Most players in Jorginho's situation want the move, and want Manchester City, but they would also go to a few other clubs as well if push came to shove. That's normal, and great players are always going to have competition for their signature. Are we only going to go for players we have a clear run at from now on? What do we gain out of this besides some sort of principle? We still spend a ton of money, it's just slightly more arbitrary now, and sometimes we'll miss out on players we want to rivals.

If he comes, he comes. If he doesn't then we find a replacement as good or better, if not this summer then the summer after. We're not desperate, we can wait. The most important thing is that whoever comes is the right player of the right quality and not a buy just for the sake of it.

Absolutely this! I’m very ‘old skool’ City. And used to be a typical ‘glass half empty’ pessimist where all things City are concerned. But I’ve, without even realising, became ‘the worm that turned.’ I really don’t give a flying fxxk what Chelsea, the Scum or any of the ‘Underlings’ do. We are so far ahead, they’re going to struggle to catch up even if we stand still, let alone overtake us! And those of you slating our hierarchy need to give your heads a wobble and dry your fannies!
