I think assuming the best just because we reached 100 points last season and think that is going to happen again is so stupid. We wont the league with Mancini and the season after we were shit and werent even in the title race really. Same after Pellegrini's title where we scored above 100 goals and scored 5 vs Arsenal and 6 vs Tottenham etc.

Mentality has to be perfect for a start when you start defending your title. Teams are going to try to put extra shift in vs Champions. Players cannot feel like they have made it now and success wont have to earned by working 110% hard. Pep could be a guarantee to thats not happening but still some players might be happy with what was achieved already.

Having new players coming to the team making it stronger is a must. We want to do well finally in the CL too and we are coming up short the Monaco/Pool ties showed it even wih Guardiola. If we cannot beat these then Bayern, Barca, Real on their day wont give us a chance either.

Juventus won their league yet they went for CR too.
Barca won their league yet they have big plans for this summer, missed out on Griezmann earlier...

Not even mentioning even things can click for our rivals too and they might get just 10-15 points more than last season while we get 10-15 less. That would make it pretty close title race.

We just signed one of the best players in the premier league and teams last year tried there bollocks of against us we keep the same standard we have a great chance of regaining the title.

i do think we will be in the market before it shuts, PEP and board have no just chased Jorginho to fill the position needed, just to now leave it dormant Personally i wouid wait if we have not better than we have at present Although Gundogan is not consistent enough imo As regards the window i just feel there might be a few big value deals near the end JFE anyone?

Jog on hio, nice if it happens, meh if it doesn't. Cant remember a game we played last season that showed a glaring need for a player, we have an amazing squad already so wont lose any sleep over this, and definitely wont be criticising the club........

The problem is we never know which 10% of the league we need him against.

It's not just a case of playing Gundo vs. easy teams or at home (he was amazing there against Arsenal and Chelsea away), the problem arises when the atmosphere in the match changes and tackles start flying in or the opposition start hitting us on the break.

I don't think we could ever play him with Mendy, for example, which rules out a lot of games where we'd want Mendy's extra width and attacking threat to break down a parked bus - he'd leave too much space and Gundo can't cover it.
IF Mendy is as good on the pitch as he is on Twitter he"ll be one hell of a player

When we were first linked to him and Fred folk were saying how great it was to be targeting that area of the squad; one that needed improving let alone strengthening.

Now all of a sudden because it appears we won't sign either, we're fine the way we are apparently. Because annoyance at the fact can't be anything but rampant criticism.

Oh and Gundogan, Delph and Zinchenko have all gotten exponentially better over the summer without really playing. The "Pogba syndrome" if you will.

There's a difference between identifying an area that needs improving and throwing the rattle out because we missed out on a player.

If it wasn't the same posters then it would be worth debating but some on here love despair more than victory.

Paying anothe £50m wouldn't have bagged Joginho. He wants the chance to continue playing under Sarri..

If Jorginho told us so we wouldn't have stepped into negotiations.

And if you were right he was not the right man for City anyway. Some corones needed to join the market leader.

...
If all of a sudden Gundogan wouldn't be good enough against most domestic teams as a DM we are fucked anyway or has to leave today.
But he is.
And if it was a risk combining Gundogan and Mendy @domalino Mendy should have a good tactical lesson as well.

I for my part got over Jorginho and can't wait for the pic when him and his agent find out Chelsea don't play CL next season ;-)

Only concern would be that it generally takes a player 6-12 months to really integrate them. Maybe less if they know the league but you can’t tell me of many players that came in and were at there peak immediately.

So with that in mind if we don’t get a replacement/deputy for Fern now than it could be 18 months before we see a replacement that is up to speed. By that time Fern will be what? 35 or so.

There’s a school of thought that Bernardo will eventually replace Silva inside and maybe Foden after. Both Bernardo and Foden will have had a good bedding in period if that is the case by the time the change of the guard takes place. I feel we need that with the DM position.

It could be a similar issue to what we had with the full backs recently.

So IS this confirmed as OFFICIALLY OFF?

If so don't we have a backup to Fernandinho?
The only one showing is Alex Garcia who is apparently on loan.
Nobody in EDS who could come through?

IF we have EDS and constantly do NOT bring players through to 1st team - or bring players back from loan - what value does it have or hold for the future?

Well the problem is that with Delph next to him, he has another central midfielder near, one who isn't going to venture too far forward and will step inside to help him out defensively on counterattacks.

Mendy isn't going to do that, he'll be 30 yards further up the pitch whipping in crosses, which is his job.

It's nothing to do with "a tactical lesson" you'd never want Mendy to play like Delph as it would be utterly pointless.

Fernandinho is not enough and Gundogan and Delph aren't good enough to play in that position. Glaring hole in the squad. The only hole.

As much as I love Delph, suggesting he is good enough to do the job is a but ridiculous. Most of the time he has played there for us he hasn't been good enough. You need to improve on key positions each year and a year older Fernandinho who could well be low on confidence and Delph is far from any sort of improvement. Gundogan did a great job when he played there last season but we didn't really see him get tested. We have been here before twice when we won the league and didn't improve on our squad at all. If we do the same again this summer it will be both frustrating and very stupid. Mahrez is a great player but I wouldn't say swapping him for one of sane or Sterling really represents a massive improvement to the team.

"We brief, it doesn't have to published." WTAF? Do you understand anything?

Anyway, that nugget of nonsense aside, no, it doesn't mean fuck-all. Football is a business, like any other. And reputation management in football is, arguably, more important than in other industries. Our reputation will have taken a hit if our communications team have dropped a bollock. IF they have.

Our rep will have taken a hit over a press release.

Do fuck off.

It makes money and quite a lot of it. Off the top of my head about £100M and rising.

I’m sorry but when did delph become this all conquering midfielder? He did decent as a left back last season but he’s nowhere near the quality we need.

Not digging you out fella, but how do you know that? Delph has risen to every challenge put before him, I happen to think we’re chasing round Europe looking for ‘the one’ and he’s already here. Just my humble opinion tho.

Mendy played as a wingback in a 3-5-2 before he tore his ACL. Up the pitch as you described.
End of the season he came in as a LB like for like in a back 4 for 15 mins each, playing much deeper. Both is possible.
If he plays 30 yards further up in a back 4 we will have to cover that huge hole as a team, a DM alone is not able to.

Pep will be aware I guess.

Thread still running ?????? :)
Jorgingho hasn't signed for Chelsea yet.
My Chelsea supporting work colleague says it probably won't be till Tuesday or Wednesday next week. A lot is still to be sorted out INCLUDING A MEDICAL (the 5th or 6th). Indeed he was quite candid this morning saying it still may actually not happen as Jorginho is only agreeing to go to Chelsea because Sarri is becomming Chelsea manager and wants certain guarantees.
Normally fairly accurate in his Chelsea ITK ness.

Because delph is 28 and he’s never been a top class midfielder.

Based on Jorginho's big talent being his passing range I don't think Delph is 'the one'. Agree he's a great player but my point is his strengths don't match the strengths that Pep is looking for with this transfer. It's all about the collective.

I expect there'll be another player on the agenda but they won't buy for the sake of buying.

What press release, you clueless knuckle-dragger?
