Hear, hear Karen - loads of snivelling, self-conscious cry babies. All because, I quote, "it looks bad on the club...everyone will think we're still small and insignificant" - Nonsense! If we stick to our new way of working, we'll pay what we feel is a fair price and no more. That being so (& I hope it is), we'll probably miss out on a few more yet - SO GET USED TO IT. Sticking to spending limits you set yourself is not weak, it's actually strong and assertive. We call the shots or move on - word will get around eventually - WE'RE NOT DESPERATE ANY MORE!It doesn't look great on us? pull yourself together,we won't get everyone we go for the same as every other club
Jeez this thread

Nothing is ever straightforward and we do not know all the ins and outs.
At the beginning we seemed to have been pushing to get a deal done early and possibly being a bit looser with the purse strings may have achieved a deal earlier with Napoli and he may have been under more pressure to sign.
It’s naive to think Sarri would not have been in constant communication with him throughout and so possibly this was always going to play out this way.
We have seen Fred, Fabinho and now Jorginho go to our rivals in a Summer when we must have hoped we had first pick and need a DM, so something somewhere has not gone to plan.
I liked Jorginho I felt his long through ball to the likes of Sane and Sterling would be such a weapon and a contrast to the possession football.
Spot on, great post. That said, the marker we are setting (have set) is that players that join our club have to believe in the club, the philosophy of the club and the long term plan. Players need to get on board with our present and future aspirations, and that isn't an option. This isn't really a new thing (e.g. we've retained world class players even when we weren't top of the tree), however we do not need to, nor will we carry people who don't buy into the clubs long term plan. The plan has been set out, and was explained in detail by Khaldoon Al Mubarak for both fans and rivals to see, and I'm absolutely proud of the way we handle our recruitment policy.
Don't think the selling clubs give a shit how desperate we are, it's a competitive market if we won't pay the money someone else will.Hear, hear Karen - loads of snivelling, self-conscious cry babies. Do you really think the fee indicates a players loyalty, intention and ability?Don't think the selling clubs give a shit how desperate we are, it's a competitive market if we won't pay the money someone else will.

Chelsea give a very thorough examination prior to hire, I will give them that.Is his medical still ongoing?

To help out Dhino for any game. What I am saying is that if we select the games Dhino is rested, then without getting Jorginho, we can copeIf they were more than capable, then why Pep felt the need to spend 50 million on a DM? First Fred, then Jorginho?
No one is guaranteed the league and improving whilst at the top is an acknowledged requisite, but we have improved have we not with signing Mahrez. Regarding mentality, it's quite simple - if you are not at it, you will not play under Pep.I think assuming the best just because we reached 100 points last season and think that is going to happen again is so stupid. We wont the league with Mancini and the season after we were shit and werent even in the title race really. Same after Pellegrini's title where we scored above 100 goals and scored 5 vs Arsenal and 6 vs Tottenham etc.
Mentality has to be perfect for a start when you start defending your title. Teams are going to try to put extra shift in vs Champions. Players cannot feel like they have made it now and success wont have to earned by working 110% hard. Pep could be a guarantee to thats not happening but still some players might be happy with what was achieved already.
Having new players coming to the team making it stronger is a must. We want to do well finally in the CL too and we are coming up short the Monaco/Pool ties showed it even wih Guardiola. If we cannot beat these then Bayern, Barca, Real on their day wont give us a chance either.
Juventus won their league yet they went for CR too.
Barca won their league yet they have big plans for this summer, missed out on Griezmann earlier...
Not even mentioning even things can click for our rivals too and they might get just 10-15 points more than last season while we get 10-15 less. That would make it pretty close title race.
Sick of hearing this nonsense - Yes, it would have been nice to have had it wrapped up weeks ago but it wasn't. We are not buying a part off the shelf and taking it to the counter with our debit card in hand.I like jorghino and I think we missed a quality player there. Deal should have been wrapped up weeks ago
Agree with this but there are the odd exceptions - the Beast springing to mindOnly concern would be that it generally takes a player 6-12 months to really integrate them. Maybe less if they know the league but you can’t tell me of many players that came in and were at there peak immediately.
So with that in mind if we don’t get a replacement/deputy for Fern now than it could be 18 months before we see a replacement that is up to speed. By that time Fern will be what? 35 or so.
There’s a school of thought that Bernardo will eventually replace Silva inside and maybe Foden after. Both Bernardo and Foden will have had a good bedding in period if that is the case by the time the change of the guard takes place. I feel we need that with the DM position.
It could be a similar issue to what we had with the full backs recently.
Thankfully those who know about football run our clubAs much as I love Delph, suggesting he is good enough to do the job is a but ridiculous. Most of the time he has played there for us he hasn't been good enough. You need to improve on key positions each year and a year older Fernandinho who could well be low on confidence and Delph is far from any sort of improvement. Gundogan did a great job when he played there last season but we didn't really see him get tested. We have been here before twice when we won the league and didn't improve on our squad at all. If we do the same again this summer it will be both frustrating and very stupid. Mahrez is a great player but I wouldn't say swapping him for one of sane or Sterling really represents a massive improvement to the team.
