Yeah, but that 2-0 defeat brought about this thread and the ensuing 180 pages of shiiiiitte.

Steady progress (like we're experiencing now) is all I wanted. Those that were patient and unreactionary shall see their position vindicated.

And for every win between now and the end of the season, I'll bump this thread and confront them with their folly.

The reaction to the 2-0 defeat was in my opinion justified because it once again showed that we didn't have the balls to have a go at one of the top sides with the players at our disposal.

Stoke played Chelsea off the park on Saturday as they took the game to them and if it wasn't for Cech would of come away with 3 points.

It's frustration ST Coleridge.....nothing more......nothing less, in that i know we can do it but persist with being scared to lose rather than having a go to win.

I really hope he proves me wrong and i'll hold my hands up if he does, but this is why i feel we wont win any big prizes with Mancini (Prem + Champs League) as when it comes to the big games he strangles our players with his tactics.

All the above is just my humble opinion of course.........

And because Blackpool beat Tottenham, who beat the european champions, Blackpool are better than Inter Milan, Man Utd, Barcelona and Bayern Munich? Individual games don't tell you much, eh. The circumstances are always different.

If I'm not mistaken, Stoke were at home to Chelsea, Chelsea hit the woodwork repeatedly, bossed the first half before fading in the second, perhaps because they are worried about a vital midweek fixture.

Anyway, Stoke's idea of 'taking the game' to an opponent is hardly what I would consider open attacking football.

And didn't we just put 5 past a team whose previous two games saw them keep clean sheets at Chelsea and Arsenal? Don't tell me Sunderland performed to the same level against us. Just like Chelsea didn't perform as well against Stoke as they did against us. Not that we were great, but the game was a hiding to nothing, we were tired and out of sorts.

Unlike Spuds who go all out to attack and who are presently 6 points behind us having scored 9 fewer goals.

Whilst everybody knows where I sit in this debate, I will say that one swallow doesn't make a summer and we flattered to deceive yesterday. Whilst we played well, the drubbing came because Sunderland played awful.

Anybody changing their position now is an idiot. We comfortably beat a struggling team at home who barely showed up. If we can repeat this performance at Anfield, at Wembley then at Ewood, it shows that we have turned a corner.

Just like the 2-0 at Chelsea wasn't an indication of anything, neither is the 5-0.

This...whilst we took our chances yesterday we did not play with a flourish for the whole game...there were passages of play early second half that were reminiscent of Fulham at home and had Sunderland turned up we might have been in amuch more difficult game. That said it was pleasing to see chances going in and there's nowt like a 5-0 win to banish the blues from the Chelsea loss...The team can now set a real focus going forward and every game we have to play yet is winnable....and loseable ;)
I do feel very confident that this squad has developed mentally since last year and we are more than ready for the final push. To come back so strong after Chelsea away is a very very good sign. A win at Anfield and I think we can take Utd on at Wembley with a more positive approach.

Two both of you, it's called seeing a game out. It's something United and Chelsea have been brilliant at for years whilst Arsenal sometimes mess it up. It was a fantastic performance yesterday even if it wasn't wave after wave of attack. It was a proper demolish job and was a premiership performance of the highest class and to say we didn't even get out of second gear would be an under statement. I'm really looking forward to the end of the season now.

José Mourinho has made no secret of the fact that he would like to return to the Premier League – but Sir Alex Ferguson has told the Real Madrid coach he will have to wait if he's got his eyes on the Manchester United job.

Mourinho recently said he had "unfinished business" in England following his departure from Chelsea in 2007. After a hugely successful spell at Internazionale, the Portuguese is still in the first season of his three-year deal at Madrid and it seems he will at least have to see that contract out if he wants to take over at United. He has also been linked with Manchester City and even a return to Stamford Bridge.

"José is a great friend of mine," Ferguson said. "We have spoken many times about his future and I understand his wish to return to England because here a coach has more freedom than in Spain, without the constant following of the media and radio.

"But it's difficult for me to say when my position will be available. It will be my health that decides. I will continue until I no longer feel the energy that has always accompanied me.

"My father, who worked in the shipyards, retired at the age of 65 and one year later he was dead. The worst you can do is to say I have worked for 45 years and now I have a right to rest. You need to always remain active and in good form."

Ferguson will celebrate his 70th birthday later this year, by which time he will have spent 25 years at United. The Scot also told the Gazzetta dello Sport he would only step aside if the club's hierarchy felt that he had gone on for too long.

"If I was told, 'Alex, you are too old, we have decided to turn the page', no problem," he said. "I have done my part here, with an absolutely fantastic career."
