I'd rather Neves for by a long mile. I've never understood pinning for players past their peak. With the rumors of Neves from Benfica in the summer I’m not sure we do Kimmich to be honest.

If Rodri got injured, it won't matter who we got really, they'd be well inferior as a DM. Including Kimich. Kimmich to me is like the Precursor to Lewis. A versatile utility player who became revered for his utility. If Rodri got badly injured before the window shut, we’d be looking for experience over a project.
It depends on the circumstances.
It would for this season though. Playing a kid would give us less chance of winning things than playing a player that already knows Pep’s ways and system. If Rodri got injured, it won't matter who we got really, they'd be well inferior as a DM. He was an average CB, a slow bit technical RB, and a Good CM. I know he is rated highly, but I've never seen a special player. Just a good one that Pep liked.
Joao Nerves oozes potential World Class. Sure he might never get there. But he is certainly going to be a good player.
Neves is dynamic, intense, brave, has technique and best of all, has that aura one can't explain it. But almost all great players have it. True some players who don't become great have it too. But he definitely has that X factor edge. Kimmich has none of that. I'll take Neves no matter the condition we are in. He is a long-term win in my opinion.
That's why I would go for both. Kimmich now, and Neves in the summer. Phillips will most likely depart this January, and who knows what the future holds for Bernardo. Additionally, Kevin will be 33 at the end of this season. Neves is a young lad and will need time, the same way Kevin will probably start his decline sooner rather than later, because eventually age catches up with everyone. Kimmich could be the immediate answer to our subpar (by our incredibly high standards) form this season. It would for this season though. Apparently, we are not going for Kimmich this month. I hope we can win the title because otherwise, it will definitely be the case of "what if" at the end of the season. I hope we don't regret the decision to go into the 2nd part of the season without a proper Phillips replacement. We are playing with fire here and heavily relying on Rodri's fitness/form this season. Often, it doesn't seem so, but he is just a human and could struggle if we overplay him.
Overall, of course, Kimmich and Neves are not like-for-like replacements, but that's not how we operate. We always evolve and adjust accordingly, but I think the pair of them would be just what the doctor ordered.
I thought it was only me who couldn't see what all the noise was about regarding Kimmich. If Rodri got injured, it won't matter who we got really, they'd be well inferior as a DM. Including Kimich.
