Maybe he's just stale at Bayern, but he's been so average in the 7 or 8 games I've seen Bayern play this season. He's never stood out once.

I agree that at 29 he's no longer a "young" player but there's still a good few years left in his prime.
I think he'd be a brilliant addition to our squad and a billion% upgrade on Philips.

Maybe on this season's form, but he has been one of the world's best players in his position for years. Even if he doesn't look it right now, his quality didn't just disappear at 28. I reckon Pep (Kimmich is his golden boy) could bring him back to his old form. Having said that, a couple of pages back, I posted some stats that he is still in the 99th percentile for all sorts of stats relevant for us for midfielders in the top 5 leagues for the last 365 days. And you can´t compare Kimmich to Philips, completely different types of players.
Unless we intend to play him in the inverted RB role. I know he doesn't regularly play there anymore, but I reckon Pep could eye him as someone to take over from Kyle Walker, who will surely not continue to start games next season as well. I see Walker as a bit of a specific assignment guy for Vini or Mbappe, but otherwise, he doesn't justify a starting 11 spot this season. He has been subpar all season, so it could perhaps explain why we are eyeing Kimmich. If Rodri got injured, it won't matter who we got really, they'd be well inferior as a DM. Including Kimich. Kimmich to me is like the Precursor to Lewis. He was an average CB, a slow bit technical RB, and a Good CM. I know he is rated highly, but I've never seen a special player. Just a good one that Pep liked.
Joao Nerves oozes potential World Class. Sure he might never get there. But he is certainly going to be a good player.
Neves is dynamic, intense, brave, has technique and best of all, has that aura one can't explain it. But almost all great players have it. True some players who don't become great have it too. But he definitely has that X factor edge. Kimmich has none of that. I'll take Neves no matter the condition we are in. He is a long-term win in my opinion.

Apparently, we are not going for Kimmich this month. I hope we can win the title because otherwise, it will definitely be the case of "what if" at the end of the season. I hope we don't regret the decision to go into the 2nd part of the season without a proper Phillips replacement. We are playing with fire here and heavily relying on Rodri's fitness/form this season. Often, it doesn't seem so, but he is just a human and could struggle if we overplay him.
Overall, of course, Kimmich and Neves are not like-for-like replacements, but that's not how we operate. We always evolve and adjust accordingly, but I think the pair of them would be just what the doctor ordered.
