I think this could also be a way to get Kalvin in the team (instead of Kovacic), Rodri could drop into the back 4 out of possession, given that he plays CB for Spain and has done it at times for City as well.

We can’t play 60+ games with only Ake as a left footed centre back. It’s critical to our rhythm. In time, once he adapts, Gvardiol is also a huge upgrade on Ake as he brings much more to the role in possession/build up. It’s a huge signing.
