Fair enough… you seem like a decent guy and like I said, you clearly research this stuff.

That said, your idea of having your own valuation system, just seems bonkers to me!

Established WC attacking/defensive potential/proven yada yada… a player is worth what a club is willing to pay! If Arsenal pay £110 mil for Rice and he kicks on another level and wins them the league, then it’s money well spent… he could also struggle under the weight of the price tag and fail to adapt to their team etc etc. It’s all relative. A player is worth what someone is willing to pay and we we’re willing to pay £90m for Rice but clearly not £100m+

We move on to the next one and enjoy the ride.
If you read the original tpostvob the thread I copied that post from, I originally prefaced that post with the exact claim above

I.e. "that a player is worth whatever a team is willing to pay." I simply just quoted the part that was relevant to the question Benzino asked me on this thread..

Anyway agree on your last point. :)

No I don't have a club, but when anyone says playerX or Y is not worth the price they were purchased for, they are often going off some internal analysis in their head.

I was just giving a view of how that internal analysis work in my head.

As for Rice, I'd say he is worth around 55 to 60 million pounds. I suppose that's about 30 to 45 million less than City's valuation. My bad for saying 50 million, I'm unfortunately from the Eni Aluko school of math :)
always going to pay fair bit more for an England regular, similar to us buying Grealish - with Jack though i think there is additional cost due to the marketing side of things that he brings in inc new supporters as well

Here is how I stated it on another thread talking about Declan Rice:

"I don't think he is worth 100 million, but then again my bias towards attacking minded players means I don't think any defensive minded player, including Rodri or Peak Busquet is worth 100 million.

But my valuation matrix is different. Clearly City Management has a different valuation than I do. Because they clearly thought Rice was worth something around 90 million or more. That's about 50 million over my valuation.

But like they say, a player is worth what someone is willing to pay. Regardless of what my personal dumb opinion is on how valuation should be viewed.

But here is mine:

Established WC attacking player at top club : 100 million or above is okay.

Established WC attacking potential player at Midtable Club: 40 - 75 Mill is max

Established WC defensive players at Top clubs:
50 - 75 mil

Potential WC defensive players at Midtable or foreign club: 25 - 60 Million.

Good Role players: 10 - 40 mill

By my valuation system, you can see we are already overpaying for Gvardiol.

And that's why I don't take my view on valuation seriously. I have to simply accept that Clubs value players differently. And it isn't my place to judge that value. Just to be happy when my club agrees with my valuation and bow out when necessary."

In short, I probably think he is worth about 75 - 80 million Euros tops
Completely agree with those valuations.

Just seeing what a difference Dias made to the side with his quality and vocal leadership I think more of those attributes in the side is worth plenty. If he’s as good as people are saying then between Dias, Stones & Gvardiol you won’t find a better set of CBs anywhere in the world. And they all carry longevity because of their ages.

By a country mile.

I don’t see us paying £86m for this guy also didn’t Leipzig say they weren’t willing to let him and Szoboslai go in the same window and it looks like he’s off to Liverpool, time will tell I guess but just think we will walk away from this one I hope I’m wrong.

How does Liverpool signing their star midfielder affect them selling their star centre half I wonder?

Going to say something controversial but defensive talents at a high level should be worth alot more than attackers.

Every great or world class winning team, has a very strong foundation at the back.

You cant win a league without a strong back line or a champions league. PSG, Bayern last season , Juve when they had Ronaldo, etc incredible attacking talent but average defence and it cost them.

The Real Madrid team that won back to back champions leagues, had a very strong backline and DM.

The Bayern team that won the treble strong back line.

Legendary Italian teams Ac and Inter had incredible defences.

They was supposedly going to spend 90 on rice so why not ?

We need to finish this deal.

First Marc Cucurella then Josko Gvardiol, both showed clear interest to join, agreed with us on terms and did all they can do to push the club. We can not hang players out dry again and again.

Yes Cucurella played bad at Chelsea but it does not change the business part.
