Well that makes no sense because none of Romano's tweets mentioned a fee. And as pointed out here, everyone already knew RBL's price. The noses out of joint must be because neither side wanted it known that a fee (obviously high even if undisclosed) had been agreed, for their own business reasons.
It seems most likely the leaker to Romano was Gvardiol's agent, both out of excitement and wanting to push the deal over the line for his client, which has spectacularly backfired. No reason to think City told his agent, though. Could have been any of the parties who'd been at the table.
What few people seem to be mentioning is how unhappy Gvardiol himself must be about this dragging on and on. He's clearly committed to the move and must want to get on with it. If RBL cause this deal not to be completed, he's going to be pretty pissed off with them, surely. We never want unhappy players around. Do Leipzig?
