I‘d love James, but think he‘ll be at Chelsea forever.

My mates boss is friends with James - even got him a personalised signed shirt for his birthday (he’s a Chelsea fan). Unfortunately I’ve given up on the James dream, he’s never leaving (unless they somehow end up out of the CL for a long time).

Yep. If it were a choice between splurging say 60m to entice Reece James from Chelsea or spending 100m + on an unproven lad with a bit of potential who hasn’t demonstrated he has what our midfielders need then clearly anyone sensible buys James.

I think too he is sensible, but don’t think we are restricted in that way.

If James was available for £60 million, we would buy him.

However, I don’t think it would stop us buying Bellingham if we wanted to and where able to.

Not saying we have infinite money but based on the teams need and balancing the amount we have spent overall, I don’t feel we are too limited and can judge deals on their own merits.

FWIW - I think the club could find better options then Bellingham (including possibly a winger to move one of Phil or Jack in).

However, given potential, age, nationality I can understand a move.

Couldn't disagree more. There's not many more complete 19 year old players on the planet. What he's done in his career so far and the games he's managed to play at a good level is almost ridiculous.

He's already a very. very good player. He clearly has the talent and mentality to be world-class.

World class talent?

All he has shown so far is that he can become a Jordan Henderson at best. Don’t even think he looks more talented than a young Chamberlain.

Bellingham hype is the weirdest thing going on now. All the times I have watched him, his talent just doesn’t stand out. Loftus-cheek and Chamberlain definitely are more talented than him so I just don’t see how this Kid can ever be more than a Henderson type of player.

He’s 19 playing in a foreign league and excelling. That shows maturity and mental strength.

He’s 19 and assisting and scoring in the champions league against elite teams. That shows he’s having an effect on the games he’s in.

He’s 19 and an international. That shows he’s one of the best in his position for a team that has been in the top 10 world rankings for ages, with massive level of competition for positions. That also shows he has ability and adaptability. Ability to get into the squad and adaptability to be able to listen to a different manager and execute his wishes.


Did I also mention, while he is doing all of the above, he is 19 !!

It’s a game of options though.
