Here’s one for the media and Liverpool fans. They don’t need Bellingham, they are absolutely stacked in central midfield. Whereas City do actually need him.
They’ve got:
Fabinho
Harvey Elliot
Thiago
Jordan Henderson
James Milner
Stefan Bajectic
Fabio Carvalho,
Naby Keita
Curtis Jones
Oxlade Chamberlin
Arthur Melo
- 11 senior players have featured for them in central midfield at some point this season.
- 7 of these guys have played in more than 20 games too, and 3 of them, at least 10 games.
- The top 4 in the list above, actually appear in their top 11 players, with the most minutes in their squad (and Thiago has been out injured for a while too).
- The top 2 players, Fabinho and Elliot have made the most appearances of any players in their squad (minus Salah) and if Thiago wasn’t injured, he’d be up their too (as he played in every possible game when he could).
- Then Bajectic, who is only 18, won his place in the team recently, but he got injured too.
Barring injuries next year, you’d think their favoured midfield would consist of Fabinho, Thiago, Elliot, Henderson or Bajectic, with squad players Carvalho, Keita, Oxlade, Jones and possibly, Milner.
Now If City lose Gundo and Bernardo as is being suggested, we would have four/five senior midfielders in the entire squad:
Rodri
Phillips
Perrone
KDB
(Foden possibly)
Currently two of these lads above have played less than 10 games for the club and one will be 32 years old.
So yeah, there you go.
