I will hold off at challenge. :) i'm not as wide eyed. CL is a crapshoot. The best teams sometimes don't win, and there is no guarantee we will have the best team or win, but if we are in the mix, I'm happy.
Dax I witnessed silva v west brom and it was the best performance I've ever seen from any midfielder to suggest he is in decline is foolish to say the least. He has had a few niggly injuries and is still shaking them of I believe he has 3-4 good years in s city shirt yet.

Yep.
By that season I expect only Hart and Aguero to be relevant from our original title winning squad. And that's only assuming Aguero can shake his injury bug.

If this Pep thing is true, that should be the first season we legimately challenge for the CL.

Gone or limited backups at best: Dihno, Kompany, Zab, Kolarov, Clichy, Sagna, Nando, Yaya, Silva, Navas, Demichelis, Bony.

Thus at best, from those we have here, this is whose left.
Hart
Mangala
Otamendi
Delph
DeBryune
Sterling
Kelechi
Aguero

And this is assuming everything goes perfectly, which we know wouldn't be the case.

Of those I expect Mangala and Delph to definitely be backups. So at best, we have 6 Starters. At best. And the replacements are no where in sight yet.

Pep might want Stones or Laporte to replace Mangala. He might not rate Delph. Delph doesn't scream out "Pep Playa"

Hes pretty quicky, can press and is a decent passer i guess, hes also homegrown so i can see pep keeping him as a squad player as opposed to maybe fernando

I think Fernando is a pretty intelligent player though. He relies on reading the game and being in the right place, rather than speed or chasing play.

So in that sense he could be Pep-friendly. And he's always looked good in a 3 man midfield, which we will probably see a lot of.

Is he really good enough though? How often will we need a player of his ilk and he can't really play in any other position other than a defensive midfielder where as delph probably could. Delph is a pretty intelligent player aswell imo anyway.

Yaya is 32, about 15 stone, plays box to box central midfield and one of his main attributes is his physicality. Old Father time is catching up with him, and it's clear he can't do the same role he did 2 or 3 years ago.

Silva has just turned 30, is about 9 stone, plays as a number 10, his main attributes are his intelligence and technique, both of which are actually improving. He was in the best form of his career 4 months ago. He's very capable of playing at a very high level well in to his late 30s. He's not shown any signs of declining physically.

There really is no comparison between the two.

Silva's form has been patchy since he came back from injury, but the amount of supposed City fans who are writing him off is appalling. He's probably the best player ever to play for the club, we should be supporting him through a tricky patch, not writing him off at the first sign of a slight dip in form.
well said mate
