Julian Weigl

Just speculation in the media.

I suspect the lad at Monchengladbach, Dahoud, will be the target.

He has his fans also, although I've seen nothing from him against us to suggest he's in the same class at Weigl.

I feel the same way about him as I did when I saw Stones, and that hasn't turned out too badly, has it?

Another Rolls Royce with German efficiency.
I watch a lot of Bundesliga and think Dahoud is a better player. He's got a greater all around game and is more technically capable. Weigl is a smart player but I'd be wary of signing midfield players from Dortmund purely because they have a fairly unique system and some players have trouble replicating their Dortmund form elsewhere. Not a knock on him because he could break the mould but so far Sahin, Kagawa, Gotze and Gungodan (although early days) have moved on after looking sensational only to drop a level or so.

Dahoud is the type of midfielder who can break the lines with his passing wheras Weigl is a more simple passer, although a little better defensively. I just don't think we need another safe passer in midfield if we are playing with Gundogan. I think a midfield of Gundogan and Weigl lacks penetration and forward passing so for that reason I think Dahoud is a better fit...and more easily attainable.

Just scored a beautiful goal for Dortmund against Sporting. He's having an even better season so far and would be a great addition to our squad next summer. Please Txiki, pull it off!

The goal:

I saw all 90' min of that game and he did well but not enough, but definitely one too keep an eye over

Pep Guardiola wants to add Borussia Dortmund & Germany midfielder Julian Weigl (21) to his Manchester City squad. [BILD]
Guardiola wanted Weigl while at Bayern and City could pay him four times more than he earns now. BVB plan to offer a new contract. [BILD]

Busquets in his prime also a simple passer.
but that doesn't stop him to be the best pivot/anchor in the world.
Silva, Dinho, Gundogan and de Bruyne are excellent passer in any range.
the problem with City, we only have Aguero upfront to pass forward.
while all wide player always start deep inside our own half.
to cover for an old guard in defense which lost their pace.

Gundogan has been class with us

Yeah he had a good game tonight. To be fair, when I initially posted that we hadn't seen the best of him it was just before the back to back games where he scored twice in both.
ill let it go then haha

he truely was a bargain though, for what we normally have to pay for his quality we have a steal

As a few have said BVB are a bit like Brian Cloughs Notts Forest - good side with good players but few replicate the same form elsewhere. That said I think Weigl will be excellent.

Means we pay more.

That is all, contracts mean very little in terms of a players longevity at a club in real terms. It is more to do with a club positioning itself for a sale. They know he will leave, he knows they get a lot of money off his sale, so he cuts in a bonus and higher wage, develops a bit more and then is sold on.

Agreed. Not sure why so many headlines read "won't be joining City any longer"... just increase the buyout if you know he is on his way out. Makes sense. I'm sure theres something in it for the player to do this as well.

Nonsense. Every key player Dortmund have sold in the last six year had no more than 1 year left on their contracts or, in Götze's case, a release clause. And because of the Götze transfer they no longer do release clauses. The whole "contracts mean very little in terms of a players longevity at a club" is absolute drivel spewed by clueless pundits, contracts are everything.

I like the look of this lad. Shows good composure on the ball, an eye for a pass, determined in the tackle & surprisingly quick off the mark. Looks like he'd link up well with our players (Gundogan, de Bruyne, Silva, Yaya et al) & have a positive impact on the team.
