What everybody has failed to spot is .... It's the winners of the Champions League that get entered into it . Not us ( although I may be wrong and if this is the case , my bad ) .

There was a World Club Championship that started around 1999 that United were in and I think they controversially sacrificed the FA Cup for it that year (or at least a round) to go to Brazil in searing temperatures.

I think this tournament was later abandoned/merged with the Intercontinental Club Cup which was CL winners vs Copa Libertadores winners.
