They’re not. More likely they calculate there will be an economic advantage in leading the world in green tech.

Anyone with less than half a brain doesn't believe a single word that comes out of China.Didn’t strike me as particularly humorous.
You can find out what China is aiming for below. For example it has reduced the carbon intensity of its economy by 46% and is aiming for 65% by 2030. It is still too high - driven as it is by the size of its economy, but it is incorrect to say China is doing nothing about its emissions problem and use of fossil fuels. Its aim is to have 25% of its energy from non-fossil fuels by 2030.

Solid-state batteries have long been heralded by industry experts as a potential “game-changer” that could address EV battery concerns such as charging time, capacity and the risk of catching fire. If successful, Toyota expects its electric cars powered by solid-state batteries to have a range of 1,200km — more than twice the range of its current EVs — and a charging time of 10 minutes or less.’
