Juventus (N) | CWC | Post Match Thread

Pardon my ignorance, but is this considered the start of the 25-26 season or the finish of the 24-25 season?
Also, I agree wholeheartedly with your post's assessment, Misty.
For me it's pre-season. I don't agree with the competition but by the time it's finished the players are going to be given time off so they'll be no time for a proper pre season.

If you play everything through your keeper, as we have done since Pep's arrival, these keeper slip ups are inevitable. Even as good a footballer as Eddie is gonna f up 2/3 times a season. Sometimes you get away with it, sometimes you don't, I'll live with it.

Rewards have been proven to outweigh the risks over seven or eight (?) years.

By Eddie’s standards that was an uncommon unforced error, which, when you win 5-2, demonstrates how dominant City were.

What was great was the save he later made and the number of times he pinged accurate long balls to ERl, who displayed the kind of touch Riyad would be proud of, and gave a performance that made mugs of those who think we would be better off with a different CF.

Second goal was more disappointing but something to learn from.

Well that was pretty darn good in my opinion! Some excellent individual performances and a brilliant team one. We probably got a runner behind their defence more times last night than we did all last season and it proved really effective. Doku’s goal was a thing of beauty and what a strike from Savinho. Things look very positive for next season.

What’s going on? I can’t believe everyone is celebrating this like we are fantastic again.
We played a second string Juve side who clearly weren’t up for it.

They still scored 2. Our defence is a shambles.

I hope we are, the energy was noticeable and some of the forward players seem to be on it.

As a team though it’s so easy to counter on us. It’s just not being addressed.

It really looks like there is an element of joy and fun in the team which has been missing. Each pre-season game seems to have better rhythm and movement from the players.

Perhaps the more use of substitutes is also helping all of them?

But that was a good watch last night!!!

They were up for it they just couldn’t get the ball.

They hardly managed any counters. Their first goal was an Ederson mistake. Their second was a rare breakaway when we were already 5-1 up.

I’m not sure what you are expecting. We are the only team to win all three games.

Ah come on. One was a complete unforced error and one was a complete brain fart otherwise the offside trap would have worked. They barely got out of their own half for huge swathes of the game, and we could have scored more. Our press was electric last night playing in a sauna and even when the game was won. Rodri killed off most of their chances. A Pep's team's weakness will always be that if you you beat the press you can counter them, but the advantages of that massively outweigh the issues. If you can't get excited about last night then what's even the point of football.

Obviously it’s only 1 game and obviously you can still drive a bus through our centre backs should you so wish, but even so it’s impossible to not be excited by what we produced, knowing that we can only improve.

We actually had a coordinated high squeeze which was forcing Juventus to play longer than they wanted to, which was allowing us to win the ball back and sustain attacks. Something which has been absent for maybe 2 years.

We saw a notable increase in forward passes and had 3rd man runners to then receive layoffs.

We had genuine width from full back, but also the flexibility whereby both full backs were both holding width and also inverting at times, with Doku and Savinho having the same flexibility to play inside or outside. Not a good game for the “Pep doesn’t like freedom” brigade.

The new signings are literally plug and play, which is exactly what was required. I think Cherki will probably need more time than Ait-Nouri and Reijnders, but not so much time where he can’t contribute from the off.

The vibes around the squad seem immaculate as well, and this is important. Them living together 24/7 at the moment is no doubt helping to bring them closer and create bonds with the new staff too.

I think we’re back.

The one silver lining in losing the Cup Final is that we don't have to play in the Community Shield so get an extra week before the season starts.
