Looks like my Milan plan has worked like a charm then. Any blues looked at good meet up points in Milan (I know it's a long way off but I'm looking forward to it already).

yeah I booked a flight to Milan and staying there on the 15th. train to Turin at around lunch time on the 16th

doing same milan on 15th train to turin and back from milan on 17th

Its pretty frequent and high speed rail so doesn't take long. I think about an hour or so. It runs from Milano Centrale station to Torino Porta Nuova.
