Kalidou Koulibaly

Van Dyke is a good defender but is remarkably over rated by the vast majority of people.

He suits their system to a tee and has a very protective midfield in front of him.

Put him out side and he wouldn't appear anywhere near as good.

On his form from last season, he would have stopped the goals Lyon scored & one of Arsenal's though. Because he would just ignore whoever told them all to stand about doing fuck all & just drop back & routinely defend it & the other defenders would follow his lead. Just as Vinny would have done.

That makes him much better than most. Since the restart though, he doesn't look quite the same. Maybe because he never gets a day off.

Koulibaly does the same tbf.

No such thing as a system player, you fit the system if you are good enough, the system doesn't accommodate you and make you look better. False comparison.

He is definitely good enough to fit ours, but yes, the protection he gets at Liverpool is more than he would get in our team so he would definitely not look best in the world.

The level of contradiction between those two paragraphs is world class.

Fitting the system and looking/being world class are very separate.

Those situations probably don't happen to Liverpool in the first place as they have a very protective midfield who prevent such situations from happening.

They literally do lol. Teams have exposed them via their wide areas on counters, especially because Trent and Robertson play so high. We did too when we played them. Just as teams have taken advantage of our wide areas on counters (aside the instances where it has been Fernandinho or Otamendi in 1v1 situations and gotten exposed badly).

Nah.
