Kalidou Koulibaly

No way it will be anywhere close to €90m imo. We definitely need Koulibaly though! Hope we get him ASAP!

Y’all seen this analysis?
Don’t watch him week in, week out, but YouTube sure makes him look good.

Great video but if you’re worried that it’s only YouTube watch a few of his games against top opposition. Against Liverpool for example.

what always stuck out was his defending. He’s much better than Van Dijk defending 1v1. Koulibaly tries to make the tackle and is confident while the same can’t be said about Virgil, ie Sane goes past him, Van Dijk brings him down and we get no penalty, surprise. It’s just outrageous how good a defender Koulibaly is. All the ball playing is just extra.

Is he as good as Otamendi at 1 v 1’s though?

He’s 29 but as someone already mentioned there’s only 2 weeks between him and Van Dijk. It was obvious at the time that if we bought Van Dijk no one would have got near us in England for years - that was worth £75m alone. I think this is about buying that dominant centre half and competing with Liverpool over the next few years - if we get him then he goes some way to matching what Liverpool have at centre half and he should be around for the same length time they have Van Dijk. Plus looks the perfect partner for Laporte. Can easily justify paying a big fee imo.

Be linked with everyone now Napoli
Trying to get the fee up
We gotta do what dippers did with van dijk and Alison
Paid what it took to fix the problem

How much would van dijk cost now if he was to go . And £90 mill for a 29 is way to high but if we’re talking around £50-60 mill than I don’t think that’s too bad .

Is this the second year or third that Napoli have tried every angle and every customer to up the fee, can not blame them with Coved, an aging squad and a good chance of not being in Europe at all they need to sell, personally i would prefere a younger player who has time to grow into the position, it is not as if we need anything great to play along side Laporte, West Ham are talking about putting Rice at CB i think it is a position he will thrive in, and so would Rodri, but i believe he does not want to play there

KDB turned 29 today. Koulibaly is literally 8 days older. Would people turn down a KDB today due to his age? I doubt it.
Did we but Maguire, Hazard or Sanchez, we have a value to every player, Koulibaly may fit in, KDB at the £100 million and 29 no we probably would not buy, it is all about options we would adapt buy younger and cheaper.

Of course we would want him as fans, however balanced with the long term finances if he was going to cost £90-100m, then probably not.

I don’t think it will be £90m but sometimes you have to look at what a player would be worth in your team rather than the value of the individual.

Is Koulibaly worth £80m+ in the current market possibly not. But is he worth £80m to us if he enables us to compete with Liverpool over next 3-4 years? If we don’t get a world class centre half who can come in and settle straight away we can forget the league next season. We need way more than a centre back as well, but it is the priority and this guy is the best available.
