And in general playing under Southgate. I watch Rice for England and he looks very limited at times, yet for West Ham he has been their best player and someone i've been really impressed with. Hoping Phillips is a similar case.
Imo it is as long as Pep can get the best out of him

hope he doesnt read it then................... ;-)

There's some proper embarrassing pap in this thread. I can understand people not rating a player, but the relentless nature of a small minority means it is almost unreadable.

Basically if you feel the need to repeat every four hours "he's fucking shite, I hate him, he's average, he's not good enough", that adds nothing whatsoever to the forum and is a total waste of bandwidth. Still, each to their own.

He would play a very similar position to what he played last night i think but obviously with better players around him and a much greater tactical structure as well which is something i think Southgate just doesn't have.

The amount of times he was given the ball last night in horrible areas because certain players just panicked in certain positions totally set him up to fail last night. Yes he didn't have a great game, but when your in such a critical position for the way England set up and you're surrounded by pretty much 10 other players having stinkers, you're going to struggle.

Not sure what part of the game he excels at. Seems to be ok on the ball but not great. Not the tallest so not great in the air. Doesn’t seem particularly quick although seems to have a lot of energy. Fouls a lot.

So on balance I can’t see him adding anything to our squad let alone the starting 11.

£60m will likely be the maximum figure including add-ons. The fans taking that as gospel and whinging about it are the same ones happy to use £51m as the Haaland figure.

Not to mention that figure originates from Delooney.

£45-50m as quoted by Athletic this morning is the more likely one.

Fook you, you're not my mum....;^)

*thumbs up*

I can also say there's a "minority" here that's "relentless" about shutting down any form of unenthusiastic support for every signing and constantly posting that everyone who disagrees with them is a clueless fm kid that thinks they're geniuses and have no idea what they're talking about. Works both ways.

His name doesn’t end with a vowel. It’s a no for me.
I don't understand comments like this. I was giddy about Grealish when we signed him because he's an unbelievably gifted footballer, and is unplayable on his day. If we were linked with Rice I'd be giddy because he has much more to his game and could deputise more ably for Rodri. Nationality and name have nothing to do with it. It's a no from me because he's an average footballer.

Funnily enough, if his name did end in a vowel he'd be going for £30mil and not £60mil.

I've got a lot of respect for you Ahsan so trust me when I tell you I say this with love...

But you're not in the best position to pass judgement on what other people post on the transfer forum.

It's all bullshit. That's what this place is for.

It's all fun and games until people start having unnecessary digs at each other and I think most of us, myself included, are guilty of that at times.

That's not really the point. I've been down on players before. The point I was making, which I think is fair enough, is that if you relentlessly post the same negative opinion about a player it doesn't add anything to the discussion. It's like the Sterling freaks who need to remind everyone once a day how much they don't rate him. Where do those types of attitudes begin? They begin when a player is linked and inevitably bleed into the way they're treated once they sign.

Anyway I've got a busy day today, so no doubt tomorrow I'll be catching up on 100 pages of sensible discussion and debate and not the pantomime "he's the messiah" - "no he's just a very naught boy" which tends to be the way with certain players.

Lavia not ready. Seems Phillips is being signed not to be a back up but to push /compete with Rodri for that starting spot. Competition makes players better

I mean, yeah, but it's just the other side of the coin, isn't it? People keep posting the same relentlessly positive comments about him and shooting down people who disagree. Does that add anything to the discussion? Then it turns into an utter bitch fest.

I get that people like yourself think highly of him and I get why people want our transfer targets to be talked about in glowing terms but I feel like it just gets a bit needlessly tribal.

Anyway, just a thought. Enjoy your day.

True, we laugh at the rags for buying players for who they are, without much thought for where they fit. Christ though, £60m for a squad player, but as you say, essential for those moments we need one. We’ve been lucky with Rodri, injury wise.

Edit: that’s if it is £60m.
Yes but our money is usually spent on younger players not 30+ year olds.
Some of the Rag fuckers are nearly as old as me. ;)
