Kalvin Phillips | Joins City on a 6-year deal

I don't see Leeds having their heads turned for anything less than £60m. Even then he may choose to stay put.

Leeds fan I know though says he's the one in their team who stands out week in week out, not the forwards or wingers, Phillips is the one who is a class above.

Is he technically excellent though? It's a core requirement for a Pep player. From what I've seen he's an engine and we do need that but maybe not the kind of player who will keep the ball under pressure?

30M£ is acceptable for Phillips, I would never pay 50M£ for a player from a nearly relegated side who is not a top player :) Simple as that :)
Leeds lost 12 of the 18 games he missed this season.

When he played they lost just 6 out of 20.

There's a strong argument that if he'd been fit all season Bielsa would still be Leeds manager.

I don’t know why people get so worked up about us questioning possible deals. We CAN question targets and prices quoted, it doesn’t mean we know more than the club, it means we also watch football and look at stats and look at the market. It’s not like the club has never signed duds or overpaid before

Last summer when many wanted Kane you were telling all and sundry about what an amazing CF Lukaku is and us lot on here didn’t have a clue. That’s why some people get pissed off with the know it all’s… I mean who the hell can watch Lukaku and come to that conclusion even if he was scoring for fun in a poor Italian league.

Yes, what a disaster it was to buy Rodri, a player who had never played in the PL, but not only that, was also playing for Simeone of all managers before. Whereas you can look at Benjamin Mendy who had played for Bielsa before. Not to mention a list of the current and past PL DMs who had never played in the league before.
Think you're reading too much into what I'm saying. :-)
Simply pointing out that we face a shortened close season and already have two players coming who have no experience of playing in England. If we buy 4-5 such players and lose 2-3 from the existing squad, it means there is increased pressure on a smaller squad at the start of the season. Other players (including your Danilo ;-)) might just take a little longer to settle.

People get worked up because of posters like you who live to belittle people with your so called superior football knowledge. People are sat back playing football manager picking X over Y because the stats say so. No consideration if the player wants to go, wants to come to Manchester, want to play under Pep or in fact give two shits about Manchester City.

Under pay, over pay. I couldn't care less. I care about getting in the right player, much like Pep does.

People on here were crying into their frosties when Kamara to Villa was announced. I mean seriously. He's obviously not as good as we thought.
So a guy from a second team from France is worse than Phillips in your opinion. Interesting. Interesting too that Real is going to break the bank for Tchouameni. They have bought Camavinga for 30M£ as well.

Provide evidence of my supposed “belittling of people” in the thread or evocation of “superior football knowledge”. In fact, if there are people doing that here, it certainly isn’t me.

Also, the idea that players who would want to come and play under Pep is small rather than extremely large is just weird, which is what some, including myself, have been arguing, that we can aim higher (and that does not mean higher in price)

Finally, how arrogant is the comment about Villa and Kamara. That is everything I thought the fan base wasn’t. So good players can’t join Aston Villa now? They are spending a lot of money, they will get good and great players. Kamara was playing for the club with the biggest fan base in France that finished second in their league while starting the large majority of games. Atletico Madrid until recently was rumored to have a deal with him. It’s not like our biggest signing ever didn’t come from Aston Villa, right?
Makes you wonder what you would have said if anyone here last summer had been pushing Cucurella before he became “the greatest left back in the world” at Brighton. “Oh, he must not have been good if he went to shitty Brighton!” But a season later he’s “perfect for us”, as it he couldn’t have had the same if not better season playing here

The same as Bruno Guimaraes. Newcastle has bought a gem for 40M£, a player who would fit excellent as a Fernandinho's successor in Man City. In general Lyon's scouting and academy is top level.
