Kalvin Phillips

could of been sharper, but considering the game time hes had with us that is understandable, his problem is hes being judged in a position where we have had ferna and rodri for the last 10 years, he isn't a bad player in fact hes a very decent player and i knew as soon as the whistle went at full time i knew he would be the whipping boy,one annoying part was the newcastle goal although rico made a bit of a hash of it phillips should of got back into the middle , a run of games might do him good(fingers crossed)
People want someone to blame.. we have had plenty down the road. Heck Rodri when he first came, stones, cancelo, etc etc etc.. you are 100% right. He plays a position where we had two really great players. People talk about his futball iq but you can’t sit in the bench that long and come on and be world class. It’s a difficult situation as we can’t afford to give him 3-4 games to get up to speed but that’s what he needs. Then people can judge him

I want him to do well but his stats for this game don't read well:

0/2 tackles won
3/12 ground duals won
0/3 aerial duals won
0/2 successful dribbles

He was fairly accurate with his passing at 91% and made 8 recoveries, but as a whole, just not good enough for this team at this stage.

I don't hate the lad, I don't think he's shit, but he's just not quite at the level for what we need. Not many players are, no shame in that. He wasn't terrible tonight but he wasn't great either and given what his strengths as a player are the fact he got roughed up and bullied in midfield doesn't bode especially well for him.

Rodri, Kova and Nunes all better than him, and frankly I'd increasingly have Rico in that position ahead of him too. He's a better all action box to box than a number 6, but we don't need all action box to box and even if we did Nunes looks better in that role.

I can just picture Txiki watching the game tonight... yes, yes yes, I was right to sign him, oh, no, shit, sorry.

I really wanted it to work for Kalvin Phillips at City but I think tonight's performance was further confirmation that he's just not going to make it here.

Don't see him getting another start now that we're out of the EFL Cup & I think he has to be gone in January or next summer.

Hell I'd rather have Perrone back.. he's looking like a total player over in La Liga.

So tonight was his big chance to prove himself to everyone connected to City and unfortunately he failed to deliver , time to move him on.

I don't think it's just tonight people are basing their opinions of Phillips on!

Tonight should have been a bit of a springboard for him. A bit of a gimme game if you like, no real pressure on him. And he still came up short.

If not tonights game, it must be one of the other half a dozen starts he's had in his entire city career to date.

Us fans haven't seen anywhere near enough of him to have any real opinion of him, yet so many do.

He didn't come up short tonight, he was fine.

lol poor guy, at least he won himself a treble.

He can eventually go back to his childhood club Leeds having that off his chest.

Sometimes I feel that it will be better for him if he plays in a team like Newcastle or Liverpool...
