A historian! a historian, by God!Wow, a fine rant. Just a couple of things: The German royal family do not run any country least of all the UK. The finest document ever produced is not the US constitution but the English Bill of Rights of 1689 from which the US Bill of Rights, the US Constitution, the UN Declaration of Universal Rights and the EU Human Rights Declaration are all derived, as well as several constitutions around the world.
Er…You cannot be prosecuted in the UK for saying certain words.Sadly, your “freedoms” seem to be getting eroded with every camera and every prosecution for saying certain words.
And, I’ll raise you a Magna Carta!
Magna Carta is much misunderstood. Though it is used as an example of the foundation of the principle of freedom from random prosecution, it did not confer any elements of freedom on anyone other than the Barons of the time. You cannot cite it in UK courts these days, but I think you still can in the US.Sadly, your “freedoms” seem to be getting eroded with every camera and every prosecution for saying certain words.

I bet your students creased themselves at that corker.A historian! a historian, by God!
Yes, John Locke was the key to many things (I used to tell that one when I was teaching.)
Habeas Corpus is closer to the mark. Magna Carta benefitted only the Barons.Don’t forget the Magna Carta.
Even the Irish jury led legal system still owes a debt to this.
Of course it’s misunderstood. It was piece of chewing gum on a bedspread in Dorset.Magna Carta is much misunderstood. The real step forward was Habeas Corpus.
Right. Got it, I think.Of course it’s misunderstood. It was piece of chewing gum on a bedspread in Dorset.
Gervais has become a bigger and bigger **** as the years have gone by, but that puts him squarely in ubercunt territory.
No one should be voting based on what celebrity says but, unfortunately, they can actually sway opinion with certain people, and so saying things like this is patently irresponsible.
I’ll just leave this here for anyone interested.
Gervais? Yeah, transphobia apparently sells, unfortunately.Fuck me, he makes a living with that shit ?
