Kaoru Mitoma

He is a right-footed left winger, we need a left-footed right winger who can cut inside like Mahrez. This signing would make little sense. Unless he would be brought in as a competition for Grealish on the left and Foden would be moved to the right wing.

Who said that we need a left-footed right winger? Foden is better on the right if he has to play wide. Allegedly Mitoma is listed as one of the three targets for wingers for this season. City's interest in Mitoma did not suddenly emerge this year. We were one of more than 30 clubs wanting to sign him in 2021 & according to a leaked list he was one of the four future targets for wingers last year.

Because Mahrez was sold and Bernardo is less effective as an inverted right winger when cutting inside with his left foot in terms of goals. Mahrez would add 15 goals + 10 assists when playing on the right and cutting inside with his left. With Gundo and Mahrez gone, we could potentially lose 25-30 goals a season.

There were times last season when he was sensational. Easily one of the most exciting players to watch in the PL and he has everything in his locker.

That said, he’s only really had a good 6 months in his career. It wasn’t that long ago he wasn’t even considered a PL standard player.

I remember players like Michu, Zaki and Geovanni having outstanding purple patches in the PL before their form fell off a clip and reverted to type.

The problem Brighton have is that if Mitoma repeats the form of the last six months next season, they’re not going to get maximum value for him due to his contract situation. Likewise, if his form drops I doubt any of the top European clubs will be interested in him.

Assuming he won’t sign a new deal at Brighton, this summer is probably the best time for them to sell him. I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if they accepted around £40/50 million for him.
