Kaoru Mitoma

I'm not quite sure if I understand what you precisely mean here. The problem is not with other clubs, showing interest in Mitoma. There are plenty of clubs queuing up for his signature. The problem is with Brighton that does not want to sell.

You can't pluck a figure of 80m for Mitoma out of thin air based on the rumoured asking price for Paquetta, Caicedo, etc.

No more than I can use Brighton selling Trossard for 25m or us buying Kovacic for 30m as a 'benchmark'. Different players.

He is a player with only half a season of note, at the age of 26. His price will reflect that.

But if you really want a benchmark, we flat out refused to offer Brighton more than 30m for a much more established younger player with twice as long left on his contract just last year, for a position we at that point really needed to fill. Maybe start there.

I quoted 80m because some other posters mentioned it. I myself believe it would be in the region of 50~60m.

No point in creating what you call a "benchmark". Transfer market is extremely fluid. Valuations change constantly.

Pep's system needs a readjustment. It looks stale. I don't think we continue playing the way we've been playing and win matches against much strengthened teams this season. Our opponents now know how to play well against us. We need to evolve as well.
I don't think it is stale at all. Pep still wants his players to versatile and keep possesion and at times. A direct winger vs packed defences, where space is at a premium that isn't probably not the best option in the world either. Mitroma isn't moving this season, or if he does it would be probably more expensive than what Paqueta will end up going for. Besides that we have already in the sqauda what Pep considers to be wingers.

Our only hope for this one is if Brighton are that keen on one of ours in exchange plus cash and it makes financial sense to them. Personally, while I would love to see a flair player of his type, I can't see this one hapoening.

The poster getting slated for the price, is possibly considering what is needed to get the deal done.

I agree 50-60 million is enough and would not want the club going above that. However, it may well not get accepted.

If he kicks on and has another season like the end of the last, he will have 1 year on his contract and still be worth 40-50 million (and most likely sold) but Brighton will have had another good year out of him.

If he does not have a season like last year, perhaps drops of a level to the point the elite clubs are not interested then maybe Brighton can get him to renew or he runs down and see what happens.

It’s a risk for Brighton but might be one they are willing to take unless they receive a over market value offer for him.

You can however rest easy in the fact our club don’t do this anymore and instead will wait to they can get a player at market value.

We could well end up front of the q for this guy again next year if he has a good season and be in a much stronger position for Brighton to accept our bid. Despite in reality the player being rated higher due to performing to a higher standard for a longer period.

Top wingers/playmakers do manage to create threats while carrying 2 defenders along with them. Tactically, it is silly for any team to depend solely on a lone winger to create chances and expect to go for G/A all by himself all the time. Wingers link up with other players, e.g. other attackers, CM and a fullback.

For example, Pep loves quick exchanges of passes by a number of players near pen. We can create threats from elsewhere by having pacey, proper wingers/wide playmakers, who also have defensive skills, as they are capable of dragging a few defenders, hence they can create a space for the centre and the other side of the pitch to create further threats.

Again we already have players in the squad who can do what you have described. They may not be as explosive but they are still effective. If Pep really wanted a pacy winger in his side we would have signed one by now.

And keeping Borges for first team instead Bobb right now.

It's very big indication of what Pep wants, he doesn't even want to go lenght for the club to ensure Borges to stay.

£50m is still way too much in my opinion. Might get a good chunk back in overseas marketing but if we are going to throw that sort of money about would try for Chiesa. Can play both left and right , younger than Mitoma and proven over longer period. Would expect to play more and that might be the issue but if we are buying someone who is essentially cover would not expect to pay more than £35m.

It looks stale? We haven’t kicked a fucking ball in anger yet and we’ve just won the treble. Let’s judge after Friday and not a couple of pre season friendlies.
Jesus this place.
