Karim Rekik

City defender Karim Rekik will spend the 2014/15 season on loan at PSV Eindhoven.

The Dutch starlet has signed for the Eredivisie outfit for a second year.

Rekik, 19, earned a place in Louis van Gaal’s preliminary 30-man Netherlands squad before this summer’s World Cup after an impressive debut senior year in his homeland.

Karim turned out on 31 occasions in all competitions last season and scored one goal.

It will be The Hague-born defender’s fourth loan spell – he has spent time at Blackburn Rovers and Portsmouth since signing for City from Feyenoord in 2011.

Rekik has made three senior appearances for City after captaining the Elite Development Squad and he featured extensively in pre-season for Manuel Pellegrini’s side in Scotland the United States.

We’ll keep you updated with Karim’s year in the Netherlands in our weekly loan watch feature here on mcfc.co.uk

Cant see this guy making it at city tbh. I think Denayer will shine at Celtic and be promoted ahead of Rekik.

I have to agree.I do think he'll make a good living out of the game though, probably ending up on the continent and bringing us a fee of about 5m.

Think it is a better early to be casting judgement with that respect. I wouldn't expect a center back to start shining through until 23+. While he keeps managing 31 games a season at a decent level....that is only a good thing.

Just to make a brief return to this forum now that many people have actually watched Rekik play instead of just randomly spouting nonsense about him, and realised that nobody in their right fucking mind would have him playing in the first team at this stage, I think this is a sensible post.

At 23 if he is a big hard, perhaps even cynical bastard, it could be that he becomes difficult to play against in spite of turning like an oil tanker & a matures into a proper defender. The problem is what we do with him in between as he wants to play & I can't see him being anything but a liability at our level in the near future.

If there was a way to keep hold of him until that age, without having to play him in the first team, I'd be all for it but I can't see how he will wear that, therefore I think we'll end up letting him go unless he improves spectacularly next season

#MCFC defender Karim #Rekik, on loan at #PSV, has revealed that he turned down Milan and Marseille this summer. #TeamOM #ForzaMilan

Poor decision.

It seems he also had options in this country, although im not sure what league.....

I'm not impressed with the Dutch league,it isn't a stern enough of a test for a player like Karim. He should have obviously gone where it's best for his progress,i don't think he has chosen well and in all probability, against advice.

I think he chose Psv because he knows the players and he knows he will start games if he was loaned to a premier team he probably would be on the bench..

Its a bit of a double edged for sure, however,he has chosen the easy option for me.

Marseille would probably have been a better option if he was sure to play, but I'd avoid AC Milan like the plague, they are an absolute mess. PSV is a good enough idea, he looks like developed a lot physically last year while there and was getting all the game time he could need. If he's comfortable there then that should help him develop and start getting the most out of his new physicality, but you'd think he'd need to spend next season at a tougher challenege to prove his worth. At least at PSV we know he's going to play.

Did anyone watch his performance last night?

I did, they won 6 - 1 v Breda but the defence was poor for PSV,Rekik best of a bad bunch on the night.

Thanks mate, kind of reinforces my earlier point.

I think he should be playing at a higher level if he has aspirations of making an impact with us,still only 19 though so I may be being a tad harsh.

Should be involved in a tough game today against Ajax, 3.45 kick off on SS5 if anyone wants to see him in the toughest test he'll probably face this year. Should be a good test.

Great win for PSV against the champions.

How did Rekik play?

I only watched the first few minutes of Ajax v PSV as I switched over to watch the tactical masterclass at 4pm but Rekik looked a bit shaky tbh,got booked for a bodycheck when caught out of position but cant comment on the rest of the match.

I suspect that most Blues missed it as they watched Turtle Head in awe.

I watched it and he did pretty well, but PSV were so open it was often last ditch stuff. The starting leftback was fucking woeful as well, repeatedly letting his winger just spin in behind him, but they looked a much better defensive unit when they subbed him off for someone semi-competent. They had to weather a storm for the last 15 minutes or so and did so pretty well. The Sky commentator seemed to think he got away with a penalty, despite it looking a lot like he got the ball cleanly
