keep one centre half...who?

Mangala. Best attitude, covers behind his teammates and has the pace to play a high line. Not every Cb needs to be playing through balls like they think they are Spanish Dave, as long as Pep tells him to just keep it simple and let the other players try the risky passes then I think he's miles ahead of Otamendi and Kompany is more of a disruption than a help these days

Nico, better training and he could be the leader we need at the back
Harsh on mangala as i really think he could be better to under pep as well

If it had to be one, I'd go for Mango.

Shown real improvement and a great attitude. Also, he is ridiculously athletic. Nico looks like he has skates on most of the time!

As for who is leaving Martin Demichelis was always going at the end of the season, as his contract is up, and will be going back to Argentina. As for who else well maybe Vincent will be another one who will be going, as we can't afford for him to be at the club, if he is only going to be playing 1 in every 6/7 games a season or maybe even less then that.

The ? we should be asking is who will Pep be bring in and which of the young players will be ready to be promoted from the under 19/21 squad. The club can't bring in 8/9 players as once again we will fall foul of the stupid FFP rules. So the club will have to promote from with in.

Kompany.
Buy 2 tried and trusted world class cb's with Kompany and Denayer to fill in in case of injuries, suspension or 20-30 minutes as a 2nd half sub.
You can't fuck around taking chances with cb's or goalies.

For me it has to be Otamendi. He does piss me off when going to ground at times, however he is easily better than Mangala. Although Vinny will probably be staying, it's very difficult to see him recover fully from his injury concerns.

You mean Center Back...not half.
and it would be Mangala because of potential.

In merrie (sic) old England, we say centre half.

And it's a really tough call. Kompany is a crock, with no reason to suggest his injury record will improve as he ages further, Mangala is a quicker version of Lescott with the ball (ie. not comfortable with it) and not as good a defender without it - sample: letting Van Dijk stand goal side of him at corners last week - and Otamendi, whilst far more natural in possession, manages to drop a serious ricket every other game. I'd like to keep the faith with Kompany, but not without buying cover anyway. Maybe 5 centre halves next season then? Kompany, Stones, Laporte, Otamendi and Denayer? Trouble with that quintet is that Kompany is still the only natural organiser and leader......

This ^^^ sad to see mangala struggling and I'm still hoping he might flourish and come good under pep. Also sadly its looking more and more likely VK is destined to have a short career :-(

Including MD in the list is pointless.

It would be Mangala all day for me, he's a work in progress (yes I know he's 25) but three years younger than Otamendi who only really 'clicked' as a consistently good player at the same age, he's been our best defender over the last couple of months, usually been really consistent when actually given a run of games, he's got a decent attitude and some character and appears to actually give a fuck.

Vinny is worthy of another year to see if he can recover himself physically imo, however if we're being ruthless it really doesn't look good when different parts of the body keep breaking down so regularly.

I would expect Otamendi to improve significantly in his second season. I think people tend to forget that Kompany and Zabba did not look that fantastic when they first arrived.

I know that Ota was known as "The General" at his previous club - was this down to leadership or solely his military salute goal celebration?

Whatever happens if we do buy new defenders I would hope that we can discover some VFM rather than paying through the nose for the likes of Stones. Van Dijk, the centre-back Southampton signed from Celtic for 13M, could probably have done just as well as any of our defenders this season and would have been a bargain. We should have known all about him given that his CB partner at Celtic was Denayer.

Would say Kompany if he can fully recover and we can believe he will stay fit as fully fit he is irriplacable, otherwise I would say Mangala can lack concentration, but his age and raw ability edges him over the otter who I like and think will improve but just gets on my tits with the fainting when breathed on.
