Keir Starmer

Just catching his speech in Bristol, sounding very much like the next Prime Minister, attacking and highlighting the disaster that has been the last 14 years of self-servative mismanagement
If he doesn't become our next PM it'll be a sorry indictment of our electorate and their short-sightedness. Starmer might not do any better, but why leave a burning house to a bunch of firemen who've proven they're incapable of putting it out.

The non-dom / Countinho money.

It’s the gift that keeps giving.
Can't keep giving while they own the current iteration of the self servatives who have given them OUR money for the last 14 years.
Maybe time to shake the magic money trees in the Cayman Islands etc and use the tax revenue that should be paid in the UK for the benefit of those who live in the UK.

I think that Osborne’s time as Chancellor probably saw the most coordinated and determined clampdown on tax evasion in recent economic history, but why worry about the facts, right?

Anyway, it will be great when the non-dom tax pays for everything - I’m sure it will force a complete volte-face over at the OBR and they’ll immediately rubber stamp huge increases in public spending and any number of income tax cuts. Can’t wait.

The next government's best hope of being 'better' is to prove that they are better managers than the Tories have been. That's not a high bar. You could do a lot just by cracking down on tax fiddling and pure corruption.

I don't expect the next government to be one long multiple orgasm because we have to be realistic. A lot of the issues people go on about are not easily solved. The Wizard Merlin will not be in the Cabinet. However, I believe Starmer and his people - while very far from what I would ideally like - are not corrupt shysters who will promise the world and deliver SFA. So that is something.

My issue - which would apply to any government - is that I am very doubtful there are efficient delivery systems in place to deliver anything. That is due to many years of Tory fanaticism and obsession with private-sectoring everything.

The whole term might be a theme of fixing what the Tories have done and he'll have to campaign at the next election to say it's not done and he needs another term. Whilst the Tories and their media blame Labour for their actions.
