Keir Starmer

Mate, this fucking “Trent” thing drives me MAD too. Like he’s some kind of national treasure or something. It started with egomaniac pop stars back in the 80s - “Elton” and fucking “Cilla” spring to mind, presumably started by themselves.

The only footballer who it’s ever been acceptable to use the first name alone is Yaya and that’s purely because he’s got a brother and he plays for City.
If they used his surname he could easily be confused with the bloke who presents Pointless on BBC1. Sort of appropriate really.

It is actually spreading, this first name only thing, mainly in football, and at City we’ve had a few. Sven got it a bit (and he is double barrelled although Shaun Wright Phillips certainly didn’t.

Pep gets it more than “Trent” although unlike “Trent” he’s a living legend, and he deserves it.

There’s also the other weird phenomena of footballers who always get referred to by both their names. Troy Deeney is one. I actually thought Joe Linton was another for a long time too until I realised.

Nah even back in the day, Ron & Paul Futcher were always Ron Futcher and Paul Futcher.

That may prove to be true but, the big difference for me will be that one deliberately broke the country leaving the other such a shit show to try and recover it
It might not be the 'others' - it might be a 'refurb' of the current rascals. Either way it'll be another five years of governing in the interests of those supposedly doing the governing and not for the benefit of the governed.

ffs look at the picture, it isn't even stately, it looks like it has been thrown in for effect.

If the flag is nothing more than a photo opportunity prop then that is more insulting than not having one inho

It’s a bit cringeworthy, similar to when that Iain Duncan Smith was trying to be cool with a baseball cap but ended up looking like a nonce on the run from dibble.

Just why do they do something that doesn’t come naturally to them? It suited someone like Johnson. We aren’t really a nation of flag wavers anyway.

He was never just “Iain”, was he?
