Keir Starmer

An unironed shirt? One dark blue sock one black? Sex with the light on?
I don’t even think they could lay that on him.

He’s not the bloke that I want to go for a pint with to let off steam but if I wanted an adult conversation about life and how we can benefit the many, he epitomises that person.

Unfortunately you can't benefit the many to any degree but I agree he will make some a bit better off for a certain amount of time. Hard to get excited about .

If he does get in, regardless of his politics, surely it's worth getting a little excited over the thought of having some who might be competent at what they do in charge? And might actually give a shit that he does a good job? I'm excited about that. The bar is now really low. Just someone who at least tries to learn how to do the fucking job.

If we go to a GE , Starmer effectively wins by default. It is not winning because it has a radical Socialist vision, the party wins because it is no threat to the neo liberal orthodoxy,

Hopefully they will make PR come to fruition, that at least will benefit the country,

The benefit people will get is that this shit-show will be finished and the clouds dispersing, giving just a little bit of light, will be that breather that everybody needs.

There’s a big job ahead and I just cannot see how a Conservative government can achieve even the basics. I’d love to say that they could as it benefits the country but they are so divided, they are in a worse position than when JC had his issues.

Interesting that Sky News have just done a piece with people in Stoke. The last time they did it, post COVID, there was still lots of support for the Tories but that seems to have changed and the people that were shown were very much adamant that a General Election should be had.

They want their pound of flesh.

I think the question, at this point, is who do you want running the country at this moment?

We all have our idealistic choice where we choose on our personal values but those ideals are not always realised with the options we have. So, we have a realistic choice of government. Is it the Conservative party, or Labour?

I think you will find as I said earlier history will repeat itself. The Tories and Labour are very similar in that they're factions in their parties that cannot hold together for any length of time.

If/when Starmer gets the gig he will try and be the sensible centre bloke. A little to the poor with the help of borrowing and taxes. But not to much to piss off the financial sector and big business. The economy you see.
His majority although healthy will start to creak. He won't be doing enough quick enough for some in his own party. Those who want true change won't see it. The career politicians will be happy enough but the ones with a vision, the members, the public sector and the unions will soon become disaffected. Then they will eat themselves.

You may get an election cycle of crumbs sold as being stable and responsible. But the usual problems without answers will be back.

So yeah hard to get excited about really even Jess Phillips said tonight that she would like to do a lot but will have to accept a little. It was both refreshingly honest and also rather depressing.
