Keir Starmer

Just needs to be a better liar than Johnson and be able to tell that lie in groups of three word slogans - its not hard really

Seriously if they had their policies from last time, didn’t have a raging antisemitism problem, didn’t have Corbyn and promised to leave, they’d have won.

Those are the 4 areas of failure, which together pretty much cover all bases:

- poor leader no one likes

- ridiculous manifesto that most thought would lead to bankruptcy

- racism epidemic from top to bottom

- wrong policy on the key issue of our time

And the stupid thing is 1 of those will disappear very quickly(Corbyn McDonnell) 1 should do hopefully before the next general election(brexit) all they have to do is sort the other 2 which isn’t that hard. But what will they do? Worry about bloody Burnley and Leigh. They will be all wearing flat caps for interviews next week the stupid bastards.

Labour needs to do only two things to win in 2024: choose an electable leader, and choose some electable policies.

Not exactly rocket science, but they’ve failed on both for about 10 years and there are few signs they are learning from past mistakes.

Amen brother, they don’t even need to win it just stop the Tories from doing so. Until Labour cotton on that the majority of the country are to the left of the Tories they will fail.

So the best election strategy is pretend you're Tory lite, get voted in, then introduce socialist policies that will help the people who would not have voted for you if you'd campaigned on those same policies.

Pretty much, yeah. It's not rocket science.

If Labour move to become credible on the economy, the far left still have enough sense to vote Labour over Conservative.

They just need to find someone with a bit more charisma than Brown or Milliband to appeal to the idiot vote.

Brexit will likely be done and dusted by the time they get another chance so wipe that off.

Wipe off Corbyn.

So that leaves sorting out the antisemitism issue and not going so far left next time.

It is doable but they need to hope Johnson does a shitty job.

Don't know much about him but being prepared to die for your country is not a qualification for leading the LP. After all I imagine Paddy Ashdown and even a few Tories might have done that.

Also can you imagine Johnson doing that? I can't yet he seems to be popular enough with his party.
No but it would sweep Corbyn's AND Momentum's toxicity out of the picture completely.

He wouldn't stand because he is mistrusted on both sides of the Labour divide. A deeply devious remainer - like Starmer and Thornberry - their collective pressure forcing the second referendum policy is now widely condemned in the party as a major election error.
Probably true but, if you accept that Brexit is now over, does it really matter? He won’t be fighting an election for four or five years and Brexit will be over, one way or another. Also, by your logic, they can only appoint a confirmed leaver and that would be Flint (although not an MP anymore, so it didn’t do her any good), of Jezzer.........

If the next leader is Long-Bailey anti-semitism will remain.....if its Jess Phillips it won't exist any more. It will depend on how the Fail/Torygraph/Expiss view Corbyn's successor. It will be kept warm in a cupboard to be brought out if the new leader looks to gain traction.....

It has to be a clean break and not one of Corbyn’s people. Phillips isn’t nearly intelligent or articulate enough, she’d be annihilated at the dispatch box.

Before anyone says, I’m not pushing for a Blairite, because I happen to like aspects of what Blair did, I’m happy for the person to actually be left wing, but maybe stay around where Miliband was and make sure they don’t have any skeletons from Corbyn’s closet.

Yvette Cooper would be my choice out of the list of people that are possibles.
