Keir Starmer

Starmer has a real policy problem. He thinks UK should remain in single market and customs union even after Brexit. The weakness of that position is that EU will determine a whole raft of British policy, but we will have no say in it. If he goes into the next election on that platform, Brexit will do for Labour in two elections running.

I don't think Brexit(in/out) will be an issue at the next GE. If Brexit is a topic then it will be about promises V what has actually been delivered and seen as though the Tories have an 80+ majority and 5 years to go at it they will have nowhere to hide if it doesn't work out

Well, it will be an issue if Starmer continues with this policy, which will completely rewrite the exit agreement and any trade deal.
Example: Mr Starmer, does your policy mean that EU will decide free movement of ppl rules for Uk?
Starmer: Yes
Does your policy mean we will have to join in with EU plans for common taxation?
Starmer : Yes.
But we will have no say in setting those rules?
Starmer: Correct.

correct if it’s going ok labour will ignore the issue if it’s going badly it’s decent ammo for labour to fight the tories

Those agreements will have been done by 2024 so I don’t think it will even come into policy making for any candidates for the PM job.

Starmer’s problem is he’s a poster boy for London coffee shop dwellers and I can’t see the former Labour heartlands up north buying him. But time will tell.

But his policy includes rewriting them.

I think that argument doesn't really stand up now we have privately educated, former major and serial liar Boris Johnson being voted in by traditional Labour voters. If Starmer represents the coffee shop crew, what does Johnson represent, The Bullingdon Club? It clearly didn't do him any harm

Johnson represents Brexit and taking back control and the working classes have bought into him.

I know as well as you do that Johnson only cares about these people putting him into power but they share similar views on the future of Britain and that’s enough.

Starmer is the metropolitan liberal remainer elite to them, rightly or wrongly.

Lol, the penny doesn't need to drop with me mate, of course Brexit was a major factor, but to simply accept
that it was the only one is ridiculous. What happened to Labour in the three elections before all that, did they
win, or did I miss something?
Don't knock it mate. The more Mike D's there are - and there's plenty of them - the longer the Tories will be in power and Labour prevented from wrecking the economy and the country.

RLB nailed on, and Labour slowly killing itself nailed on.
The PLP must be horrified at this prospect, they're not daft, they know that this candidate will be as
popular as Corbyn to the electorate, but are powerless to change things. I can see another, centrist party forming,
the SDP failed, but Labour had purged the militants, which gave them a better look, and Teflon Tone was brought in,
giving them 3 wins on the spin, this time, with the party membership stuffed with the far left, and no purge in sight,
another party would get a real chance imo.

Aye, because the country is looking fucking rosy after 10 years of your knobs in charge.

You see, you still don't get it do you, Corbyn, a nice bloke that nobody liked because he wasn't cuntish enough?
People like strong racist men that are cowardly cunts, lol, it's no good arguing the point anymore mate.
Anyway, Jezza's clone has just taken the lead on the rails, with Starmer fading, you'll get yet another pop
at realising the socialist paradise.

Because you don't get and have produced nothing to prove me wrong

Members of cults don’t realIse they are in a cult fella they just think everyone else is simply misinformed. Even saying they are in a cult just adds to their narrative of our misunderstanding. Any year or decade or half century from now we will have finally seen sense and voted in the cult.

And you are a clown

Everything's relative mate. And maybe if the country wasn't utterly fucked when "my knobs" got in, we'd be in better shape.

Anyway, please carry on. RLB for me :-)

It must piss off most of the PLP to know that the Tories are keen to see Long Bailey get the job, knowing that they
are hoping for it must be seriously embarrassing.

It's like praying for Phil the face to be in the starting line up when we play united in a derby.

I've wondered this myself, but most of my political debate comes in this forum, and I'm not sure how representative we are of society :)

You'd think the media narrative of her being Corbyn's choice would be enough to strike caution in Labour members, but maybe not.
