Keir Starmer

Because there is a huge death toll and everyone is trying to be respectful at this stage, they have to work together as much as possible, the country would not be pleased to see them going at each other right now ,also boris has just risen from the dead, the time to go in really hard will be later

Why are you trying to point score?
I’m not
If you think the thing is a fuck up say so
Don’t keep it in for later political gain
That’s worse playing games

I did. And also none of the stuff you listed is "constantly mentioned".

You are so right. Starmer may well lacerate Johnson on a weekly basis at PMQ but so what? Unless he can engage traditional labour voters + the middle ground and win hearts and minds around traditional values of fairness, decency and bring some honesty back to politics, it means nothing.
Too true,

there are quite a few of us on here that fit your description - we have been suggesting that it is important for Labour to win us back for years

Thank you - it is nice to see such recognition on these boards - other posters have been less aware.

There is a time and a place,he is being critical of the handling,he has nothing to gain from going hard at PMQ's,boris is no match for him there without his mates behind him and the noise distraction, there is a fine line to tread during a national crisis, after comes the inquest and it won't be pretty

He said that the labour leadership was the number one issue he heard on the doorstep during the last election.

I fully believe he’s right in that, that was the number one issue. He isn’t saying there wasn’t others either though. I’ve never voted labour before and doubt that’s going to start any time soon. I am glad he’s the leader of the main opposition party right now though, exactly the type of character needed. When it comes to election time, probably not, but he might still be ok then depending on how much stock he can build up beforehand.

Future elections wise though, no one should care about right now really, that can come in three years. Right now it’s only about holding the government to account like we all need right now (the government themselves included).

PMQs are very much for people interested in politics and not the general public. Posters on here can live in a bit of a bubble but him doing well will not harm him but it won’t make him either. His first step will be gaining back traditional voters which is the easy bit. From there it gets very tricky.

After years of incompetence, brexit and austerity the Tories have a huge lead and I’m not hopeful that even a calamity that is this virus will change enough voters minds in this country. Even tens if not hundreds of thousands of lives lost or deeply affected won’t be enough to guarantee booting out of the Tories. Depressing but probably true.
I think an inquest into their handling of this virus could be very damaging to the Tories. It could be the best thing to happen for Labour and Starmer. Time will tell but it looks like the government has struggled from day one of this crisis. People wont easily forget the lives lost and the damage to the economy especially if we dont come out of it aswell as other similar countries. This can only benefit the opposition.

Now he's got the gig, it's OK to point out the fact that Corbyn was a bit of a problem, with
everyone on their doorsteps pointing this out to every canvasser, yet to the membership
and the likes of Ash Sarkar and Owen Jones it's the filthy meeja wot did for him.
Corbyn was the biggest problem, wonder what Starmer thinks was the second biggest reason Labour lost?

Hes been caught staging his clap for the NHS.
Ive not been comfortable with this forced show of appreciation, we can all show it however we want without having to be judged, but more fool him for falling into a typical politicians stunt so soon

That isn't what happened and the sky news cameraman that filmed him debunked the story immediately. He wanted to retrieve his 8 year old daughter who was clapping across the road in order to stay off camera.

There isn't a story here despite the Daily Mail's best attempts and the clap was no more staged than anyone else's.

Fair enough if you think the clapping is becoming forced across the board. I would be inclined to agree. But Starmer hasnt done anything wrong on this occasion.

If you dig a little deeper you’ll find that you’re the one who has been caught out.

Agreed, these ridiculous, constant attempts to disparage and demean politicians by forensically
examining any movement, expression or attitude, then presenting it as if he's the devil incarnate
are fast becoming tedious.

Im just glad he wasn't filmed with a cup of coffee in his hand.
