That was my point, so thank you for reinforcing it so eloquently. The issue of leave v remain has NEVER been a simple left v right issue and likely never will be however much middle class remainers try to make it so.

The leave vote is a broad spectrum, encompassing wildly different political viewpoints, it's what makes it so appealing to so many millions of people. What other issue can Unite Jacob Rees Mogg and Tony Benn?

I believe I was replying to a poster who seemed to think that everyone who voted labour at the GE would have dutifully done as they were told by their middle class masters and voted remain in a 2nd ref.
I was simply pointing out that wasn't the case. The working class has leave and remain voters amongst it's number. It is the most diverse of all the classes on this issue - you won't find many leave voters in a leafy suburb but you will still find many in a depressed housing estate.

It just happens that the working class has millions more leave supporters that the almost exclusively remain middle classes.

It's why leave smashed it in the referendum.

I know that's hard to take for some people but, you know, democracy me old chum.

The whole thing stinks of a new labour wonk saying "How about showing people you're not just Mr forensic and have a photograph holding a can which has a edgy dig at a pub who's company started as the self proclaimed rebels of the brewing industry who then sold out for the money?" Ironically is not a bad analogy for where he wants to take the party.

The media than giggle "Oh Keir. You're such a wag!"

Corbyn would have had a photo op at a festival/protest with people wearing Fuck Boris T-Shirts and the press would have demanded he's hung for treason.


It's the double standards that get me.

Not sure what you’re on about. I thought he was photographed drinking some “Barnard Castle” beer which was a not too subtle dig at Cummings. What’s wrong with that?
Maybe I’ve missed something.

It's simple. Whatever Starmer does Corbyn supporters will think is wrong and he should have done it differently. That's about it.
 
The latest YOUGOV poll makes pretty uncomfortable reading for Starmer.

Labour 10 points behind a Government that has killed over 65,000 people.

Looks like the Blairites claim they would have a 20 point lead under one of their own is a little bit wide of the mark.
 
If, after the battering the Tories have been getting, Labour are well behind now,
then their prospects are bleak indeed. Their leader kneeling won't have helped,
added to a wooden delivery and general greyness, it's effects are now becoming clear.

After reading the report i can only conclude himself and the PLP don't give a fuck. They'd rather just have their own Parliamentary side hustles without having to justify them by actually being in power.

I suspect the plan is not to actually do or say anything - just to be there as bland as vanilla blancmange at the time of the next GE when the public will be ready to vote labour just to get BJ and co out.

Could be argued this has been Labour's problem for years mate. If anything appointing Starmer was a display of pragmatism that showed the party was prepared to change course to become more electable.

At the end of the day, what the YouGov numbers say is that progress has been made, just not enough to overtake the Tories yet. As MSC just said, the plan might be to play the long game and let Johnson bumble his way to being unelectable.

Yes, it may be their plan, but it's a risky one, people will stick to what they see
and hear, if those opposing are saying nothing at all, I doubt it will work. Blair
was the one, the kiddy, he had the charisma, the drive, vision and energy to not only
beat the Tories,but totally destroy them,although I couldn't stand him.
Starmer, so far, is only just improving on Jezza's rambling PMQ's wanting answers
why Doris from Basingstoke's prolapse operation has been delayed, sparkle,
wit and likeability are not in abundance.

Utter bollocks their ineptitude didn’t kill them all, how many 10s of thousands they have we will never know. Plus they are managing to give businesses shit loads of money for keeping staff they would have kept anyhow.
