Keir Starmer

Then he’s a fucking idiot.
Well tbf she identifies as she/her and only said people using he/him doesn't bother her after it was used to introduce her and the outraged of twitter started one of their collective rants about the news presenter misgending her.

Tsk Modern times eh

It’s an absolute load of shite, that’s what it is.

I can think of nothing dafter than Starmer saying "I support the teaching unions". Support for teachers and parents is trying to protect themselves, and society, is what's needed, and force the incompetent government to tell people what's going on. As in this letter to the Education Secretary last week:
Supporting the Unions is supporting teachers and parents and protecting them.

It is a battle between the forces of Capitalism who want the kids to go to school as it keeps the workers in work and the forces of Labour who want to protect peoples health and keep people alive.

Capitalism doesn't care if you die, it cares about profit.

If and i pray it doesnt happen, but if a child catches it at school and dies. There will be pandemonium, anybody on the wrong side of that divide will be finished, unless its a Tory, because silly cunts vote Tory.

Just don't say you're doing it because the unions say so.

Why not, the Unions are the Labour party power base, surely he has to appeal to some part of the population apart from the moderates/capitalists/Murdoch etc

I'm note sure as a strategy appealing to your own base does much good in winning elections fella. Putting political stances/ideologies aside Labour aren't great at self promotion.

To gain support they need to be a lot smarter going forward in the language they use and how open they are in the alliances they make.

He has to get his own base onside first before he can make inroads into elsewhere. At the moment he appears friendless in his own party.

I really want to warm to him, he is the leader of the party i have loved and supported all my life and i am struggling to find positives. He could easily throw us on the left a bone to gnaw on and we would possibly be content to gnaw away and get onside. Maybe a simple gesture like bringing RLB back into the fold or unequivocal support for the teaching unions might just do that. Then he might be able to move forward knowing he has the backing of the whole party rather than just the moderates

I don’t think bringing RLB back is a good idea but even if he did that ain’t keeping the ‘left’ content for any period of time. With regards the teaching unions this would be just the type of issue I’m talking about. He/Labour have no need to stand up and say we support our comrades/brothers in the teachers union.

They need to be much smarter than that.

This is from Jon Lansman founder of Momentum.

“I will work to elect Keir as Prime Minister at the next election as hard as I can. If I disagree with things he’s doing, I will do it as constructively and comradely as I can…"

If they banish the MPs they lose the seats. If Starmer puts his own people up against Socialist Campaign Group incumbents it will split the Labour vote and they will still lose the seats.

Ironically if they had listened to Momentums wishes to democratise the selection process then Starmer the Socialist Campaign Group MPs would face reselection, but they didn't because they wanted to hang on to fuckwits like Watson

Labour has always been a broad church, the Left backed Blair because he was democratically elected, when a leftist was democratically elected the right threw their dummy out of the pram and actively undermined the leadership. Labour can no longer appeal to both because Social Democracy and Democratic Socialism is incompatible as the brexit debate has proven.

What toxic views do you mean? And why are they masquerading as Socialists?

Because it was a matter of principle. I would have voted against the deal because it is a shit deal and i would have preferred a no deal option, because a no deal option makes a Socialist state possible as it removes all the links to the EU.

Starmer has managed to alienate leave, remain and fence sitters with his position.

I am as left as most on here, I am a working class lad from a council estate who lives in a council house and I am a leaver, i am against open door immigration, I am in favour of more police, I think criminals should be deported lawfully, I believe all races are equal and should abide by the law of the land. I think Free speech is important but there are limits because free speech comes with responsibility. I would say I am not a massive patriot but that is because of personal rather than political reasons. I believe we should have strong independent armed forces that should not come under the umbrella of NATO and i have long been a supporter of CND ad I oppose foreign wars based in imperalistic aims. I have no real disagreements with the people you call cranks, so you must think i am a crank.

Which crank positions above do you think are the positions of a crank?
Rascal - there are a number of posters on here of the 'left persuasion' that are adamant that they will not support Starmer - but I will respond to yours as I believe that you 'mean it'.

I say 'mean it' - because when 'push comes to shove' I am pretty confident that the majority that bemoan the stance of Starmer - will indeed vote Labour in the next GE.

I can see a hugely frustrating, but clever strategy from Starmer - and one aimed wholly at winning the next GE. He seems to be keeping his powder entirely dry and not making any statements or promoting any policies that could be hostages to fortune in the years to come.

His strategy seems to be limited to........

Come 2024 the UK electorate will be royally pissed off with Johnson and the Tories and they will want change - and they will vote for the party that will be the only credible option. All I have to do is wait and not leave myself and Labour vulnerable to having set out any positions that can be criticised.

I would guess that in 2023 he will start to go on the front foot with a range of promises that match the frustrations that opinion polls reflect are the views of the electorate

It seems a winning strategy to me - and I really believe that most that bemoan him now will still vote Labour when it comes to the GE - just to get rid of the Tories.

Starmer, largely, does not have to worry about the Left - those votes are in the bag. He wants the centrist ground as well - and with the situation in Scotland - he needs them to secure a majority.

Personally I think RLB, Pidcock and especially that wanker Burgon damage the left and it's reputation outside of their own echo chamber of followers.

Slightly feel sorry for RLB as she was straight away decided as corbyns heir and it left her with enemies on the rabib right of the party and the morons on the left who gave unequivical backing, leaving sensible left wingers who support her having to watch as she was used as a political tool by both.

Oh god Burgon fuck me horrible just horrible. There is a big problem for Labour and it’s been there most of my life and we don’t need or want to go through it in terms of right or wrong. I’m talking about enhancing their chances of being elected.

Brothers
Comrades
Social justice
Unions
Palestine
Gender fluidity
Etc etc.

Everytime a Burgon or whoever stands up and spouts the above those who vote Labour anyhow may be nodding in full agreement but it puts off a lot of people, it reinforces a stereotype the party finds hard to shake off mainly because they don’t realise it’s a problem.

They need to be smarter change the language but not your beliefs. Don’t sell out just sell it in a different way.

Absolutely. Starmer gets it in a way that the likes of RLB and Burgeon never will. You have to talk sense and talk to all sides in a debate and shift it to your view, throwing rocks from the ideological sideline gets you nowhere. Its a gift to the tories. Labour are looking electable again purely because arseholes like Burgeon are back in obscurity.
