It was a pretty decent speech, not a great speech, but better than I have seen him, but he does not inspire me and I think many on the left will find it quite disappointing. No mention of social housing, no mention of foodbanks, little about poverty, but plenty on the Tory theme of aspiration.

It will be interesting to see the reaction of the RW media.

Was never Starmer‘s biggest fan, but he is nailing this speech.
I think I can feel the beginnings of hope. It’s been too long.

Why would you find poverty and food banks inspiring?

Clearly I'm just teasing, but the serious point is why would you want to hear Starmer complaining about what's wrong with society? Most people are inspired by positive visions, rather than critiques of what's gone wrong.

As all politicians do, promising the world but unlikely to deliver on any of it... talks the talk but wont walk the walk.

Yes, this is how democracies work.

People say “vote for me and I’ll do this” and then you vote for them and if they win they do it, or they don’t and you hold them accountable by not voting for them again.

It’s not a perfect system but in general it’s preferred to the “vote for me just because” system.
