Keir Starmer

A Labour leader with traditional Labour values cannot win a GE in this country. The numbers don’t add up.
I wouldn't be too sure about that currently.
The Tories have been drifting further and further to the right since 1979.
We are currently seeing eds reports about record profits for gas and electricity, while your bills go up. We are seeing water co panties increasing bills while discharging raw sewage into the rivers and coastal areas.
The rail networks were in disarray before the industrial action.
Wage stagnation and deflation has caused many to have to cut out any treats they might once have enjoyed.
A centre right "Labour" Party will get a massive majority in the next general election (a recent pole had the self-servatives going down to 69 seats), it there has to be roomin politics for a centre left party (currently the Greens are the nearest we have)

He'll be lucky to finish one.

Caretaker Sir Keir steadying the ship as the Tories regroup and blame him for their mistakes.
Internal shenanigans may do for him but I really don't think the Tories will be forgiven within 4/5 years. Not this time.

As GDM has stated this is a golden opportunity to put the right wing of the Tory party into extinction but Starmer will go for personal gain instead I believe.

Yet you ‘lol’ at my statement.

Come on, give it a ‘Like’ ;-)

I genuinely hope you’re right because politics and the balance between public and private sector in this country absolutely needs realigning, but I walk and work among middle England more than most on here - and I fear your perception of the overall mood of the country isn’t totally on point. We are a conservative nation (or at least England is) for better or worse.

I think he’ll be bolder, possibly much bolder, once he’s in, but what a sad indictment of our shitty electioral system that he feels the need to be dishonest to get into office. A fucking farce.

I just hope he doesn’t do a Blair if he gets a decent majority, in terms of electoral reform, because the country desperately needs an overhaul of its institutions and he’ll have the opportunity to change our society for the better.

I highly doubt he will do anything at all with electoral reform, I don’t expect either of the two main parties to promote it as party policy as they know it might well be the final nail in the coffin for them, both are struggling already to be broad churches.

Forget electoral reform from the two main parties.

It’s set up to benefit both so no chance they do anything that would upset the closed shop.

I'd say both considered centre left, rather than on the left of the party.

Even Attlee would have had the Campaign group complaining - Nuclear weapons and NATO were hardly Corbynesque.
I wouldn’t personally say the left of the party was traditional Labour, but the left of the centre-left was, if that make sense. Benn was the former and Callaghan was the latter imo.

Can't fail to see the irony that a man named Keir is at the helm when the trick is about to succeed, albeit 113 years later. The dark lord does have a dark sense of humour.
The standout line is the large font bolded bit in the middle. Sounds like the original Keir read too many Guardian columns and was wired into JOB ;-)
