Keir Starmer

You do come across a bit Nadine Dorries in your defence of everything mate

NO I DO NOT!!!! :)

Irony being there’s page after page about Starmer getting a few gifts with loads outraged.

I come along and say it’s a non story and it’s good he’s given gifts back and then get bombarded … and I’m the one that gets asked ‘am I ok’ lol.

You’re doing fine ;-)

Yes because it’s a non story over shadowing the good work Labour have done so far -
Well it would be easy to overshadow wouldn't it. Like a daisy in Epping Forest. I'm sure it's in there somewhere but buggered if anyone can find it.

I think he is a proper gooner and football is his hobby so he should pay for that himself unless it is the arses paying for a box for him and not the prem as that is a conflict of interests

Going to see taylor swift was also not work so he should be paying for himself and family

The rest i cant really get excited about

Honestly Kaz, I am not really that fussed about any of it per se. Clearly, many Tories have done the same or worse, so what's the big deal? Why am I so concerned about it?

For me it's not the gifts themselves, it's what does all of this tell us?

First, I do question why someone who is supposedly a socialist, who was on £150k per year as leader of the opposition, and more now, a multi-millionaire who earned a fortune as the DPP, would think it remotely appropriate to be accepting free clothes, glasses, tickets for himself and his wife and accommodation. I find it staggering that anyone who purports to be a socialist would think this is OK. Truly incredible. Someone who thinks it's OK to take £300 off pensioners, thinks it's OK to take £100,000 for yourself in gifts? Bizarre anyone could think like that. And even more bizarre they would not care how it might look.

Second, there's the rank hypocrisy of slagging off the Tories for years about this kind of thing, whilst doing the very same yourself. What sort of person does that??? Can you imagine doing that? I cannot. I find truly baffling. If was doing something dodgy, the very last thing i would do is publicly slag off others for doing the same, since I would logically think "If it comes out that I've been doing this, I will get slaughtered for it, so I had better not". Why did he not think that and refuse the gifts, as Rebecca Long-Bailley rightly has said he should have done.

So the question has to be asked, is he really, really politically naive, stupid even? Or is it because he genuinely thinks he is above everyone else and we can all sod off and he doesn't care what others think? Neither of these possibilities is good! But I cannot believe he is thick, nor politically incompetent, so the only logical conclusion is that he thinks he is above everyone else and he can do what he likes with impunity. It's Trump-like behaviour.

Which is why I - and most of the rest of the population - have concluded he's a wrong un, a fraud. He says what he thinks people want to hear, but underneath it all, he's a money grabbing slimeball in it for himself and sod the rest of us.

Personally I’m a bit meh about all of it, it’s all in the public domain because he declared it, which is a step forward compared to quite a few previous. That could be argued to be bad politics in itself and he could have just ridden the stormout but ultimately it’s going to end up in a better place with far more scrutiny across all of it.

I imagine MPs of all parties will be desperate for it to go away and I do think the RW press in particular need to be careful they don’t try to push it too far.
...
Too late.... Tory MPs will now come under scrutiny when they hadn't before. What have they unleashed? The gravy train may have hit the buffers.

The bottom line is Starmer, just like the rest of them, can't keep their noses out of the trough.

haha .. ' I am not really fussed about any of it '' before proceeding with a massive long winded rant yet again.

@BlueHammer. Thanks of ther attachments. I do not intend to critique every line but my overarching comments would be these:

1. Many of the things cited, I do not regard as being remotely positive, quite the opposite
2. Many of the "achievements", they have not actually achieved! Saying your going to do something is not an achievement!
3. It's an incomplete list. It does not list the utter balls-ups.

No, I said I am not fussed about his gifts per se. I don't know why I bother with you, I really don't. Maybe best if you put me on your ignore list?

I’m fairly sure ministers won’t be on the list as most gifts (if not for personal use such as a ticket to a football game) belong to the state.

Starmer receives a painting as leader of the opposition it belongs to him
Starmer receives a painting as leader of the country it belongs to the state

Yup. Surprised “have breathed” hasn’t made the “achievement” list with such a low bar.

It’s only an achievement when it’s delivered, until then it’s an ambition.

Anyroad he likes lists. Bless him.

What and deprive himself of the chuckles we all have at your ramblings?

You still haven't told us what you do for a job so we can all decide if you're overpaid or not, the way you have regarding plumbers. I won't hold my breath!

Which ones, out of interest, do you think are positives?

Retired mate. Income of £10m a year and £500m stashed away in an offshore fund. And I get my suits bought for me as well. Carry on.

And that says it all about you. You're happy to have scathing opinions on other people's jobs and their salaries but not prepared to put your own out there for scrutiny. You've been unusally quiet tonight, I wonder why that may be. Probably putting some posters of Honest Bob Jenrick on your bedroom ceiling, i wonder which one you'll take down to make room, Johnson or Truss?

The bottom line is Starmer, just like the rest of them, can't keep their noses out of the trough.
His problem is that his main selling point was that now 'the grownups are in charge' and he is just better than his Tory colleagues even though his policy promises didn't amount to much. Having set himself upon a tall pedestal of anti-corruption he has to be squeaky clean.
