Keith MacRae

He was playing in the first match I saw/remember... v Luton Town in Oct 1974... He played most of that season in fact and it's probably why I never really rated Joe Corrigan as I remember my dad saying how bad Joe had been... "Not as good as Trautmann"... He'd been dropped after just 2 games of that season, according to MCFC stats.

He was a decent keeper, nothing special but better at that time than JC anyway.

Useless info time.

He made his debut at Sheff Utd after the team had a bump in the coach and Big Joe wasn't fit to play. He was then fined for wearing black shorts and socks which didn't match our first strip.

(I may have mixed three separate incidents up there but I don't think so.)
Does anyone remember is all white and all red goalkeeping strips ?

As my mate 'Webby' refers to it as 'The snake pass disaster'

PMSL. Yes it was that game when he made his debut; October 20th 1973.

We should do soemthing to mark the 40th anniversary in 2 years time.

Was he not known as Kipper.

He certainly was in my house, Big Joe was 'The Cat' because at the time he was always sleeping and MacRae was 'The Kipper' because he looked dead in the box.

We went through a period when Joe and Keith would take it turns to play 3 or 4 games, each having a couple of decent games followed by a couple of nightmares. Then Joe suddenly turned into a brilliant keeper and Keith disappeared from the scene.

I always remember Macrae's great save in a League Cup replay against Coventry at Maine Rd on the way to the 1974 Final. Macrae looked stranded on one side of the goal and the Coventry player looked to have a tap-in but somehow Macrae got across to claw the ball away.

Does anyone remember seeing Keith MacRae play in goal for City? He arrived at a time when Joe Corrigan was having a rough time of it. He played the most part of a season in the early 70s before Corrigan returned to form and never really looked back. Despite that MacRae, whatever you might have said about him, remained loyal to the Blues and stayed for about 6 years. That's almost unheard of now.

I wonder what he's doing now.

i remember one particular game away against nottingham forest when he had an absolute blinder. which in itself is very unusual, i mean how often do you see a ginger who good at anything

The Ginger Pig is pretty good at kicking in the changing room wall!

A mate of mine, a big Motherwell fan (I know there's always someone worse off than yourself)told me, he holds the distinction of playing in all outfield positions for them,as well as goalie.

when he signed there was a surge in demand for these
