Keith MacRae

my first ever city game was first match of the season 71 ? v leeds and I believed it was his debut, I could be wrong though, we lost 0-1

Thought he signed after that season.Think I as at that game v Leeds though, they wore White shirts and Red shorts if memory serves me well and ticket touts brother scored the winner....I think!

think it was a little later than that. 72/73 ish. can't remember.

1971/72 Sat 14 Aug Man. City 0 - 1 Leeds Utd

1973/74 Sat 27 Oct Man. City 0 - 1 Leeds Utd

1975/76 Fri 26 Dec Man. City 0 - 1 Leeds Utd

Just googled City v Leeds, think you are right re MacRae but the J Charlton game was 71 as he finished end of 72/73 according to tinternet

Think he played in a couple of games early 80-81 season during that awful winless run that saw the end of Big Mal I recall going to home matches vs Stoke lost 1-2 Villa 2-2 draw, not sure if he featured in those

Joe played in the 1st 4 games and got injured at Stoke in the League Cup (the game when Tommy Booth went in nets)
Keith played in the next 4 games Boro away (2-2) Stoke at Maine Road in the 2nd leg League Cup (won 3-0) then home to Arsenal (1-1) and his final game for the first team was a 3-2 defeat at Forest.

I was at his home debut, against Leeds who were unbeaten and were to remain so for the first 29(ish) league games. They went on to win the league of course. We lost 0-1 and I think it was Mick Bates who scored. A memory that was vivid for me was Francis Lee being outsprinted by Gordon McQueen who looked a giant compared to him. My thought was of one player being near the end of his career being vanquished by a young upstart just starting out, and it made me a bit sad. Funny impression to have but it always stuck with me. It was on Match of the Day later, which I didn't enjoy watching.
