Keith MacRae

Does anyone remember seeing Keith MacRae play in goal for City? He arrived at a time when Joe Corrigan was having a rough time of it. He played the most part of a season in the early 70s before Corrigan returned to form and never really looked back. Despite that MacRae, whatever you might have said about him, remained loyal to the Blues and stayed for about 6 years. That's almost unheard of now.

I wonder what he's doin
I remember we paid £100,000 for him from Motherwell (I think). It was a record sum for a goalkeeper at the time.
MacRae was indeed signed from Motherwell, this on the back of a fantastic performance in a televised match against Celtic.Macrae had been an outstanding keeper for Motherwell for a couple of seasons and should've been the Scotland keeper at the time(no great compliment I know). We were all surprised he didn't quite dislodge the inconsistent Corrigan and become a Man City hero.

he was a decent keeper, nothing special. I was around 19 at the time. I saw him in a shop In heald green, he looked too small to be a keeper imo.

After a bright start Corrigan started having a few mares culminating in that famous game against West Ham,which was also Jimmy Greaves debut for them, when Ronnie Boyce hit a free kick Joe had just taken straight back over his head as he walked back to goal not looking at the play.I was in the old scoreboard end wet through screaming at him as the ball was sailed towards goal but he was in a world of his own.Eventually he heard me,looked up and back in a panic, tried to scramble back but it was too late the ball was in the net.

I was also at MacRae's debut against Sheffield United it was my first away game i was allowed to go to. In typical City fashion we were 2-0 up only to be losing 3-2 before Franny Lee scored a late penalty. Now this is bizarre. I swear MacRae was in goal that day but i have just found the footage on you tube and it is Joe Corrigan!!

MacRae's debut was at Bramall Lane (my first visit there) but a couple of seasons later; 73-74. I think he conceded an early goal but we won 2-1 thanks to Law and an og. IIRC the locals were a bit upset as one of our goals was scored while one of their players was badly injured on the pitch.

My dad started taking me to city when Keith was in goal..my first memory of watching city was this goalkeeper with a mop of curly ginger hair.I was fascinated by him and he was a regular. I turned up another week to watch city only to see another guy playing in net.( jc) oh how disappointed I was to see this guy with ordinary black hair... Childhood memory.

Think he played in a couple of games early 80-81 season during that awful winless run that saw the end of Big Mal I recall going to home matches vs Stoke lost 1-2 Villa 2-2 draw, not sure if he featured in those

I think there's a few people getting their Sheffield United games mixed up.
The coach crash, when Corrigan was injured, was during the 75-76 season, and resulted in a 2-2 draw.
However, the majority of MacRae's games were 73-74, the most notable being the Wembley defeat against Wolves.
