Kelechi Iheanacho

To be honest Isaac Success went injured in the second game of the U17 World Cup (managed to score 2 and assist 2). This gave Kelechi the space to be the star of the show. Before that Isaac was.

Nigeria seems to have 5 players of 'world class' potential in this squad:
Isaac Success
Taiwo Awoniyi
Moses Simon
Musa Yahaya
Kelechi Iheanacho

Hard to predict who will realize his potential to the fullest. Moses Simon has acheived the most in senior football (team of season in Belgium and player of the season in Slovakia), while Kelechi Iheanacho looked like superstar material in the last 2 months playing for ManCity U21. Success meanwhile has struggled at Granada, Awoniyi has been the star of the show in New Zealand, while Yahaya looks like a midfield boss, but needs to be given chance to shine.

AS it stands Simon and Iheanacho seem the closest to becoming stars.

He played 19 games in La Liga this season... how I wish our young players could struggle like that!
In which he's scored one goal. That's not great for a striker, it's probably safe to call that struggling

I is for Iheanacho

One of the brightest prospects to emerge from African youth football in recent times,Kelechi Iheanacho is expected to break into the senior side at some point in the coming season.

A product of the Taye Academy in Nigeria, Kelechi had to wait for his City EDS debut after awaiting international clearance to play and then promptly picked up an injury just five minutes into his first match for the Blues!

He showed flashes of his talent on last year's summer tour of the US and scored a cracker against Manchester United towards the end of the 2014/15 EDS campaign before jetting off to play in the Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand - definitely one to watch out for.

Much better to be struggling at a higher level than to be a big fish in a small pond in the youth ranks, but I guess you've never watched this Granada team, because If a forward in that team can notch up to 8 goals in a season, that's a top Striker IMO. Just look at Ighalo who scored 20 in the Championship.

Watched the Hungary game, seeing Iheanacho play in the midfield annoys me. Clearly looks uncomfortable playing that deep. All he did was pass the ball back to the midfielders/defenders, never looked up and tried to play a ball into the forwards. Don't think Nigeria will go far with players like Success, Yahaya, Simon, and Nwakali on the Bench. Not optimistic about their chances against Germany especially if they line up with the same lineup. Fully expect Manu to get exposed like most Africans teams once their speed and strength is match by the opposition. Will be rooting for them nonetheless.

At Least Iheanacho will be fresh and rest for the preseason since he has only play about 1 full game.

You mean 2 popularly watched games by people who don't watch the other 50 games for the EDS all year have overrated the lad?

Perish the thought. The guy is Ibra Junior and doesn't need any time in the EDS to gain proper form as he scored against United so fails to qualify for the the "skinny lad lost on the ball" criteria. Doesn't matter that we have 5 players better than him, it just matters that the people who bothered to watch on BT Sport think he is now the next best thing.

At least you understand where I was going wrt the comparison of Success and Kelechi.

But tbh, Simon is already a star in my opinion, he joined Gent in January and was good enough to be voted in the team of the season, he even scored a hat trick for two teams in one season. I'd also add Ndidi and Muhammed to that list as well, Ndidi especially he just needs to bulk up.

I've seen all the EDS & youth team players loads of times & a fair bit of Iheanacho prior to him joining City. I think he is one of our most talented kids we have had for decades & should go straight into the first team squad. I know for a fact that at least two others who watch most of the EDS & youth team games also think he is one of our best talents, I imagine there are many more, so I really don't understand what you mean by those comments.

The goal v Utd was just him starting to get match fit. He will be better still in July.

I understand too.

I just don't agree with you or have much time for your opinion when you keep trying to belittle the fact of Kelechi being voted the top player in the U17 World Cup. If we signed a Brazilian player for example, who was the best player in this U20 World Cup, I wouldn't expect various Brazilians to appear on here playing it down & explaining how he didn't really deserve it because someone else was better than him a year earlier.
