A player doesn't need a work permit to be employed or trained by city but they do if they want to play competitive games, Joel Campbell signed for Arsenal in 2011 but only got his work permit in 2013, Iheanacho probably already is a city player but just cant play think he will get a January loan move to a European with slack work permit rules maybe Belgium but probably Norway knowing us we tend to sent a lot of our Right to Dream youth players there such as Adjei-Boateng and Donyoh.
 
If this article is true it looks like Manuel has him lined up for a place in the squad once/ if he gets a work permit.


Manchester City are confident Nigeria youth international Kelechi Iheanacho will be issued a work permit.

And the English Premier League moneybags have stressed that the highly rated starlet is part of coach Manuel Pellegrini's plans.

Kelechi Iheanacho is highly regarded by manager Manuel Pellegrini, so much so that he was allowed to train with the Argentina National Team before the friendly with Portugal last month.

“Kelechi Iheanacho has been in England training with the first team of Manchester City,” a source told SL10.ng.

“When Argentina met Portugal in November, the Argentina national team trained with a shadow eleven, not the regulars you see on television, and Iheanacho was among those selected.”

With no caps for the Super Eagles, the 18-year-old's future at the Etihad Stadium is hanging in the balance due to red tape, but the Citizens are hoping to invoke the Premier League special talent clause to complete the transfer.

“We are optimistic that Iheanacho will get a work permit, that is what everyone is looking forward to. He should be able to prove his mettle and break into the first team,” added the source.

“Manuel Pellegrini wants him which is important.

“He has to be considered as a special talent to get a work permit. Man City are not prepared to loan him to another team.

“They don't have a Plan A, B or C for Iheanacho. The club want him.”

Iheanacho, who has been called up to the Nigeria Under 23s, has been linked with New York City and KV Mechelen in the last few months.

I don't really get that comparison. I admit that I only saw him in the preseason but he seemed more like a Jovetic-type player, a 'second striker' or even as a number 10. He tracked back, opened up spaces in between the defensive and midfield line etc. Very different from Mario, if you ask me. Seems as phlegmatic as him , but that's it for me.
 
Iheanacho's agent Robert Zanicky stayed in a hotel i work in , in Didsbury and brought him along a few times, he was training with Columbus Crew because of an Ebola outbreak in his village in Nigeria, he was/will be issued a permit, i remember they all went out celebrating bringing brass back (minus Iheanacho).

I did a quick Google search on the agent and he was accused of messing with minors (16 at the time) seemed to love life and has set up many foundations in Africa.
