Ken Bruce to leave Radio 2

I'd be interested to know what Radio 2 consider to be their target audience these days
Radio 1 have previously acknowledged that their target audience is under 25s, so I assume Radio 2 is targeted at over 25s. But what is the target upper age limit?
Personally I think the BBC are missing a trick. Keep Radio 2 for the 25-50 age range, and start a new station (7?) for those who like familiarity and want to listen to 60s, 70s & 80s popular music.
Myself, I'm 51 & enjoy the mix of old and new alternative music on 6Music, as I still like to be exposed to quality new music.
In fairness 60s 70s and 80s is music pretty much. I'm not sure why anyone thinks it's the over 50s that rate it.

There's great and average music from all decades. Plenty of great new music out there still. Unfortunately, mainstream radio stations just play the average stuff that makes it into the singles chart.

There is great new music just less of it. Peaks never last for ever. We had a great 30 years or so. Fortunately the younger generations get to hear these songs for the first time.

Got bollocked by the missus for laughing like a drain at one of the last contestants ever on Popmaster today. Bigged herself up claiming to be a "songwriter" and all-round artist and then amassed a whole 3 points. In front of probably the largest ever Popmaster audience and probably getting everyone she knows listening. And after waiting ages to get on the show too. You'd have to have a heart of stone not to laugh.

Friday dinner time will be the last time I purposely listen to Radio 2.
The station has turned into a 30something's hen party, with shows "presented" by chatterboxs, who have very little music knowledge (with the exception of Gambaccini, Harris and Walker..... but I don't listen to radio at weekends).
What is the point of Zoe Ball and that talentless wanker she promotes at every possible opportunity?
Scott Mills. God help us.
Sara Cox. The daft northerner act has worn thinner than Co-op bacon.
Vernon Kay. Just a bloke shouting, after he's taken a dodgy tablet.

If you want to listen to nasaly bitches who whine on about their boyfriend still seeing his ex, then R2 is your friend, because that's 50% of their playlists.

RIP BBC R2
Now you mention it, I don't think I've ever purposely listened to Radio 2. Genuinely.

She was absolutely disgraceful,I thought at one stage it was gonna be a huge piss take and the other contestant was gonna do the same, just to have a laugh on his last show, but the minute I thought that I thought nah this is the BBC,no humour at all

Hence to say the guy got 27 points and that was that haha

End of an era for me.

My parents are in their early 90's/late 80's, and their radio never moved from R2. Up until he moved to TV (full time) I did indeed Wake up to Wogan. In my early teenage years, I discovered my own tastes, so I never heard R2 for about 15 years.

One day in 2000, I was rang by my boss to go and do some emergency work at another site, so I jumped into a company car. His radio preset was radio 2. Straight away, my shoulders slumped, but they were playing Blondie.....I kept it on.
Driving back, I heard the Quo, the Beatles, Carpenters, David Gray, etc. I thought I'd give R2 a try. I did, and I've not looked back

I can appreciate things change, and people get pissed off with musical tastes affecting a radio station's output, BUT, this has gone TOO far, now. My parents are probably pissed off that Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Gilbert O'Sullivan etc are hardly played anymore, but they get played occasionally, just like the music I grew up with (I'm 53), but 70's and 80's stuff are literally avoided like the plague, so we can be bombarded by stuff that's not "cool" enough for R1, anymore. Why the fuck do R2 play "music" by Stormzy?... that's R1's remit.

Bar 10 minutes of Tony Blackburn, driving to work on the odd Saturday morning, and a bit of Paul Gambaccini, a few hours later, my radio won't have R2 on again. I'm sick to death of whiny 20something girls who are ditching their fellas because he's still seeing his ex .

Ken Bruce.
The last "proper" 5 day a week DJ on R2 has gone. Thanks for my 2 digital radios on Popmaster.

LEGEND.

See you on GHR

She was embarrassing.
Sick to death of hearing thick fucks getting on, and not getting double figures, but surprise surprise, she's got got "shout outs" (I FUCKING HATE that expression) to about 50 people.
