-----------------------------------------------------------------

Earlier today, Bolton announced that Kevin Davies will not spend a tenth successive season with Bolton Wanderers. Dougie Freedman said that Davies "is and always will be a Wanderers legend" and as legends usually go, they tend to fade. There is no question that Super Kevin Davies doesn't have the legs that he once did, even though he's shown flashes of his old self on a number of occasions in recent seasons.

The news has been difficult for many Bolton fans to take. Kevin Davies has just made a scheduled appearance on talkSPORT's drivetime program, explaining the situation:

"I'm not going to be an offer of a contract next year. I'm a bit shocked to be honest with you. I was a bit shocked at the time and it's not quite sunk in yet.

"I've had a couple of sit-downs and I think I've been here for so long. I've been here so long and you want to get a feel for what's happening next season.

"It's suprising, to be honest because I've been here for so long.

"I thought I'd be at this club until I retired and start coaching and doing that afterwards."

Kevin was also asked about the possibility of leaving Bolton Wanderers in the current loan window:

"There is the possibility of going out on loan in the next few days and if that doesn't happen, I'll wait until the summer.

"Over the years, I've had clubs come in and I've always turned them away because I've been happy with the club.

"I can keep holding my head up high with what I've done for Bolton.

"Nothing lasts forever.

"I have to keep my head up for the rest of the season. I think it's going to be hard for me to be involved.

"I've made 38 appearances and still doing things that the younger boys are doing in training and I can still do it at this level. I've had a few clubs inquiring and trying to get a hold of me.

"It hurts right now but hopefully by the end of the season, I'll have a new challenge ahead of me."

He might be a nice person off the field and he came over well in the interview. But on the field he is one of the worst cheats I have ever seen. He never stopped diving or fouling defenders. There are those who will say he was a "clever" player. To me he was a cheat.

Made the most of the ability he had and is part of a dying breed: the target man. Hard to imagine he earned an England cap, or then again maybe not.

Would think he could still ply his trade in the lower leagues, but he'll not earn as many free-kicks, and after 20 years in the game he may struggle to remain motivated. Good luck to him.

If you're a notlob fan, he puts himself about and gets stuck in for the cause.

In reality, he was a dirty, cheating wanker, hate the diving cheat

I seem to recall Kevin Davies' wonderful insight when we beat them 1-0 at home in 2010.

He reckoned we didn't have the team spirit needed to win trophies.

He repeated it during the season.

That was the season we won the FA Cup and his team it beat 5-0 (5-0!) against Stoke (Stoke!) in the other semi final.

The most penalised player in the premier league.

Sums him up.
