Kevin De Bruyne | Napoli player

He's become increasingly fragile in recent years. He's 34 now, and the injuries are likely to become more common. And, given his age, will take longer to recover from. He needs to do some serious thinking re what path he takes in his future in the game. Maybe knock the playing on the head, and get into coaching. Or maybe media work.

He might have to take a leaf out of Vinny's book and know when your body has had enough and call it a day, leave on top.

Vinny could have played for another 2 or 3 years but knew the time was right.
You're right, but I don't understand why they continue to play for their country instead of focusing on his club football and letting his body get as much rest as possible inbetween games.

I remember vinny would get fit for us, play 30 mins and we would think, great - he's back'.
Then he would go to the other side of the world for a midweek friendly against some unknown country in a 5th round qualifyer and get injured again.
Rinse and repeat.

If he had retired from international football - or at least said 'I'm not playing in these pointless friendleys' then he might have got another couple of decent seasons at the top.

Same with Kev-dog.

All he’s got left to win is something for his country.

He’ll do his best at the World Cup and might call it a day after that, but you’re a long time retired.

Might be an alien concept but maybe he wants to play for his countries football team and proud they still pick him.

Not a hope in hell Belgium win the WC.
Feel sorry for him - but for his long term health, after the hamstring issues he's had, he'd be better hanging up the boots

Surely preparing himself for a world cup should have been his international priority
He's of an age, and risk of injury, where his minutes have to be managed, and if he's incapable of reigning himself in, then his managers have to

Thing is footballers can get injured anytime sometimes the more match fit you are the less injuries you'll suffer, personally i wouldn't want to stop a player representing his country. Only hoping John Stones has done another deal with the devil like in our treble winning season. :-)

And to think of all the bedwetters on here having a go at pep and the club for letting him go.
We all knew he was past his best and his body was failing him. We've had the golden years of kev's career, memories made forever but he is on the decline, it's natural.

Was absolutely gutted seeing him getting injured, hopefully he recovers and gets to the world cup.

Gutted for him. A genuinely lovely human being. I hope he makes one last world cup. Our medical staff probably got it right recommending we let him go.

Do you remember when Vinnie came on as a substitute, following an injury on international duty, and Yaya, who was captain for the game, went to hand over the armband, but Pellers told Yaya to keep it?

If it’s bad and the same hamstring that could be curtains for him

Well to answer the question - no, we did not get release him too early. We knew this was what was going to happen. At some point, he would pick up an injury. And now he's done it on a seemingly innocuous penalty kick. And its the same hamstring that he had surgery on. He could be out a while. I'm gutted for him. He's a legend. Seems like he does everything right off the pitch and is a genuinely good man. World footy can be cruel.

It'll be interesting to see how we deal with the likes of Ake and Stones as they approach ch the ends of their contracts.

Time to hang the boots up Kevin lad you have had a tremendous career now is time to look after yourself for you and your family, come back as a coach or join sky sports and fuck rat boy and spitty to the grave.
