One of my favourite City managers personally. Got me thinking, with his attacking prowess and seemingly abandonment of all things defensive how do you think he would do with the current squad of players we have? Do you hold him in as high regard as myself?

That division 1 (now Championship) season was one of the most enjoyable to date in my books. Great entertainment and I'm sure many fans would love to see us revert to those tactics sometimes given their criticism of Mancini's defence first policy.

Thoughts lads and lasses?

the way Keegan handled Berkovic suggests he'd struggle like mad with the big personalities in our squad.

I can never forgive him for that, took us back years.

His later signings were poor too so I wouldn't trust him with the chequebook.

I would love to see him just manage us for a couple of games, though, to see the attacking team he sent out!

Certainly not.

Exciting football at times, no doubt, but his transfer policy in the later years held us back and did untold damage to the club. At a time when we didn't have pots of gold at our disposal he spunked what we did have on absolute garbage. Had completely lost the plot by the end.

I sat next to one of the players Dads on a coach going to an away game and he said that the players thouht he was a total wierdo. Apparently he had one personality for the media and another one for the players.

i know there is a lot of negative stuff about him but he is still my favourite manager for city, i met him and he signed the back of my shirt. i also remember when we were 4 nil up or summat and he put another striker on - love that mentality.

Completely agree. He's a media darling with a track record of quitting at the first sign of trouble.

I know he took us back up to the Premiership and then kept us there - but he had alot of money at his disposal. You didn't see the likes of Blackpool or Birmingham City get money to sign an equivalent of Anelka. The idiot still lost half of the fee afterwards.

Plus, if I'm not mistaken, the money he was given came from us effectively mortgaging our season ticket sales over the next X number of years. To then use it to fund moves for the likes of Mills, Vuoso, Seaman, McManamanamanaman, Fowler and all the other shite he brought in was just unforgiveable.

I think there's a reason he's affectionately remembered at the clubs he's been involved with, and whilst all managers make mistakes, lose games, sign occasional poor players for too much money, Keegan did a job for us at a certain point in time and he did it very well.

I've no regrets, and for me although he burned bright and burned out, he's still deserving of a lot of respect and for getting us results.

(and I'll not forget the 'Joey Barton' cup tie down at White Hart Lane in a hurry either... ah the Keegan years! ehehe)

* and I note that some people just like to slag off and criticise; it's their specialist subject and makes them happy... to all of you I say "hail Keegan!" as you wouldn't have so much to enjoy bitching about if he hadn't have stepped in and come manage us!

;o)

From what I remember Goater said he wasn't his biggest fan after he left. That said when Keegan got the job you knew what was going to happen we would get exciting football the you score 3 we'll score 4 mentality was there for all to see and of course as has already been pointed out he gave us perhaps the greatest comeback ever

I thought Keegan was fantastic ... his enthusiasm was always like that of the fans, rather than the manager -- he got really involved in the club, and you could tell he really took every defeat to heart, just like we all do.
Some of the attacking play was fantastic - with Anelka, Bernabia, Berkovic, Huckerby, Goater, etc ... and I think he was very unlucky once we reached the Premier League - there was a whole spate of games that we completely dominated but ended-up losing or only drawing after an unlucky twist of fate.

That said, like many managers he had his favourites (eg: Fowler) that he insisted on playing even when they were off form, and others that he went off (eg: Huckerby and later Goater) even though they were scoring for fun ... and I think because he is such an emotional character, when things were going well he was very fired up and full of energy ... but when things started going wrong, he just curled-up in a ball and wanted it all to go away.

So I would say that at times he was as exciting and inspiring as any manager City have ever had .. but he was also high maintenance & moody.
... the "Carlos Tevez" of managers, perhaps ?
