Kevin Keegan

It was brilliant when Kevin Keegan was here. I thought the football and the energy we had was great. Even going down to 10 men in some games didn't matter. Roberto Mancinis team was the same. Certainly happy days when Kevin was here. Happy birthday Kevin.
Who would've thought we'd be in this position now. Happy days.

And I'm sure their goal shouldn't have counted. Wasn't Weaver taken out? Or one of our players was.

The round before we went to Ipswich, another Prem team, and we destroyed them. Someone launched the ball to Berkovic on the edge of the area directly from a corner and he smashed it in. One of the best goals I've seen that never gets a mention -

That Berkovic goal - what made it more special was that it wasn’t even a corner and they went ape shit at the referee.
Big Mick was in the studio and at half time whilst everyone was moaning and whinging about it he just said in his Big Mick way “I don’t care if it were a corner or not - it was a bloody good goal!”
Anyway it served the tractor driving in bred fuckers right for the weakest link banner the season before.

I was sat directly behind Jensen in BB, so I had a perfect view of the ball flying into the net..

It was a fantastic strike. Against dirty Leeds, wasn’t it?
Oh gosh, I can't remember for the life of me, but Leeds sounds good to me, as I didn't care for them at all in that era. Always found Alan Smith to be annoying.

I think Keegans whole football career is basically legendary .esp for a player who was certainly not gifted.he basically worked and worked at his game strove to improve and took on big challenges.

From signing professional forms at lowly Scunthorpe utd ,making their 1st team
To then signing for Liverpool...making their 1st team and being one half of a brilliant Forward partnership with big John Toshack..this little and large combo was said to have a telepathic understanding on the pitch...scored loads of goals .won the league and European cup

Not content with being at the top of the English game,he bravely decided to try German football with SV Hamburg and ended up being European Footballer of the year. An outstanding achievement for a once Scunthorpe utd trainee.
Back to England where he brought Keegan mania to both Newcastle and Southampton and both those teams battered City back in the day ...
As City manager all I can say is ,early days, he made going to Maine Road an exciting event
Non stop attack, the energy was off the scale.
Can't thank the man enough for transforming City and entertaining us fans.
Legend.

Edit: I've just looked up his career history... European Footballer of the year Twice. Wow.

Reading everyone’s memories of Keegan’s City has been brilliant — what a time that was.

I’ve actually been replaying that exact 2001/02 season on Championship Manager 01/02, starting from the Division 1 campaign before promotion. It’s been fascinating seeing how that squad performs in-game — Berkovic, Bernabia, Goater, the lot!

It really brings home how attacking we were under Kev. Some of the scorelines are pure chaos, just like the real thing

(If anyone’s into retro football gaming or remembers that team fondly, I’ve been documenting the season — happy to share if it’s okay with the
mods, please remove if not)
