Kevin Spacey

I tried to explain in my post. Not “rumours” as such, but information that was consistent and pre-dated his charges and subsequent trial/acquittal. I’ve never met him even briefly. If we were all were bounded by absolute personal experiences or encounters we’d only have opinions or views on very little in this world. I don’t like the rich and powerful taking liberties and see it as exploitative behaviour, others clearly think it’s okay and just part of life. I believed what people I knew actually said and have no reason to think they would lie - but others don’t know them so will naturally see things differently. That’s perfectly understandable and fine by me.
As we all know, internet and social media can be a bit of a strange place at times. I’ve said my piece on Spacey, explained it’s reasoning and will leave it at that. I don’t expect people with dissimilar perspectives to see things the same way - which is okay by me and I’ve no issue with them disagreeing.
All fair and reasonable. I struggle with people calling others “cunts” based on “rumours” but you seem strong in your conviction and feel it’s based on “truth”.
If he did use his fame and fortune to his sexual advantage- and it was all consensual- I’ve no problem with that. If he was coercive and used his fame and fortune illegally, throw the book at him.
It seems the book has been thrown, caught, and summarily flung back.

Still gossip, without actual evidence, something presented in the courts case you are unfamiliar with, but a jury who were found him not guilty.
Yep, if being a bit of a wrong un or creepy on a night out is a criminal offence then we'll need to build a lot more prisons.

Why is it appalling?

Great cast, screenplay (Alan Ball is a genius), subtle dark humour in abundance, an incredible debut feature from Sam Mendes.

No wonder it swept up at the Oscars that year.
I genuinely thought it was awful, a very boring film. Guess it's all about opinions?

That movie has a rating of 8.3 on IMDb
Which even so I guess implies some liked other films more, much more like me?? Sorry not my cup of tea at all.

Not all critics liked it, and there are quite a few reviews like this on line.

You believe him to be a bit of a ****. Based on...rumours.
Or, you’ve met him, know him and thus, you’ve made what would / could be described as a reasonable (albeit possibly limited) interpretation of the man’s psyche.
Given the certitude of your conviction, I’m surmising (rightly or wrongly) you’ve spent at least one or two prolonged periods in his bedroom
Saucy

You’re being very unsympathetic towards young working class lads. Spacey is a very successful, intelligent, highly educated and sophisticated older man with money, fame and power. It’s just exploitation no different than Prince Andrew and that young girl in my view. Not necessarily criminal but reprehensible non the less.
Where does all the "coercive, abuse of position, exploitation" start and/or end though? - It's a very unclear area.
Does having a good job, manners, the gift of the gab, a great car, taste, a personality, a talent, being well dressed etc., mean you are some sort of predator? Any personal responsibility?
Does anyone who may be attracted by such things have any autonomy? Perhaps people should only be allowed to date after a silent meeting, wearing only a hessian sack, in the dark. The way things are going, being good looking or putting on Lnyx will be viewed as an unfair abuse of power.
