I'm not sure that the judgement of fans with zero knowledge of what went on behind the scenes in the ESL fiasco is more reliable than the judgement of those who did. I think I'd rather trust Khaldoon.
Was huge certainly, but not disastrous. We have been locked out of UEFA positions since the Sheik took over; G14 have seen to that. Ceferin is pro City.He got an existential decision hugely wrong by backing Sorriano’s flawed analysis
Made his enemies at PSG, who quite rightly told the G14 super league architects to fuck right off, look like the good guys and thus giving them a free run at powerful UEFA positions and influence. And locking us out for eternity
It was a huge and disastrous strategic own goal. Can’t be dressed up in any other way
OK, but what if City had took a stand and PSG never, we’d have been left in the dust, it was a dilemma, Khaldoon decision was taken with City at heart and opted for the least risk solution. Remember these scummy clubs have been desperate for years to somehow block City out. They are running scaredAny supposed ‘super league’ without City or PSG would have been immediately exposed for what it was- a blatantly racist enterprise.
When it came to the crunch, the lads from Qatar showed more balls than our lads, and that is a fact that can’t be disputed
We allowed geopolitics to trump football politics.
We allowed tribal pettiness from the Middle East to pose an existential threat to Manchester City Football Club
We shat it
It was a horrendous failure of judgment. Let’s not be scouse cultists about it

We are owned by businessmen who saw opportunity within the PL.It was a horrible mis-step and the sight of a Glazer statement on our website still sickens me to my core
But two things. We were the last ones invited and it was presented as a fair accompli and there was definitely an element of panicked fear of missing out. Very out of character
But also we were one of the very first out, despite Chelsea’s showboating.
Secondly, I understand it was driven by Ferran Sorriano who it is fair to say is no friend of the fans, a pure bread head behind the micro-aggressions that are the pointless but constant season ticket increases
Totally agree. And by coincidence,1 hour earlier on the Pep renews thread, I wrote this:Thought this was worth a bump in the circumstances.
“Probably doesn't really merit a thread”
Oh yes it does.
What a guy we have running our club.
Probably without him we don’t get Pep for 10 years.
The guy oozes class.
Best run football club in the world and it starts with him.
Our best ever signing.
Let's be honest, it's likely not for the Boddies or the fish n chips. The reality is his stint here has been the result of a long-term, strategic plan put in place by Khaldoon. Starting with the recruitment of Soriano and Txiki, but all of the pieces being put into place as well including the academy, the partnership with St. Bede's, the stadium expansion, development of City Football Group etc etc etc.
It's all the result of a coherent, joined up, long-term mega-strategy. Something no other club in the world has done like we have.
Putting your ludicrous negativity to one side, you clearly have no clue about what the entire City project is all about.I am more minded to do that than trust a man who will sell us down the river if more money is involved.
Home games in the UAE anyone?
Good post. We are now the best model the world has ever seen for the ground-up development of a world class football club. Khaldoon clearly uses the business principle of recruiting the best in all key positions, giving them the tools and autonomy to do the job and looking after them properly. Pep is the most public cog in the machine but the other cogs are necessary.Totally agree. And by coincidence,1 hour earlier on the Pep renews thread, I wrote this:

Sheikh Mansour didn't choose to invest here, because of some bizarre and hitherto secret support of Manchester CIty. No, he did it for political reasons (as well as fancying owning a football club).
The politics being to demonstrate to the world that Abu Dhabi is a country that can do great things; to encourage people to visit Abu Dhabi; to demonstrate their capacity to transform and improve through sound planning and sustained investment. And to demonstrate their sympathy towards long standing institutions and loyal supporters. In short, to promote Abu Dhabi.
No-one could argue that the program has been anything other than a spectacular success. If you imagine for 1 millisecond that they would contemplate undoing all that good work for some short term monetary gain, you are completely bonkers.
You're deluded. There's nothing "next". And the ESL, what choice did we have other than to join? Standby and be happy to play Stoke 3 times a season instead? It's hardly like were the ones behind it.The ESL would clearly have been for long term monetary gain at the expense of the fans of the whole football pyramid, not short term.
Who knows what is next? True colours have been shown. Yes it is about Abu Dhabi and us playing there in the long term no doubt. Global Local paradox.
